Objective

This role plays a crucial part in the success of the Global Operations and Compliance Technology division in Canada, ensuring that individual goals and initiatives align with the broader business strategies and objectives. It is essential that all activities adhere to relevant regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the technical components of a software team by making design choices, guiding team members on technical issues, and overseeing system modifications.
  • Act as a liaison with the Bank's technical departments to resolve application, security, incidents, and network challenges while coordinating projects.
  • Engage in all phases of the project lifecycle, including Requirements, Analysis, Design, Development, Testing, Implementation, and Production handover.
  • Produce documentation such as design specifications, operational guidelines, and support materials.
  • Complete necessary applications-related artifacts.
  • Facilitate design sessions and lead code/program design and reviews.
  • Oversee the change management process.
  • Bring a minimum of 3 years of robust project management experience in relevant technologies.
  • Assess new technology options and vendor solutions.
  • Regularly update the team and management on project status.
  • Assist in preparing materials for various management reviews and meetings.
  • Promote best practices to eliminate waste, enhance innovation, and create value for the organization.
  • Provide strong support to Project Managers in building relationships with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Offer production support and escalation during regular hours and off-hours, ensuring rapid and sound judgment on production issues to minimize unplanned outages.
  • Understand the Bank's risk appetite and culture, integrating these considerations into daily activities and decisions.
  • Foster a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive workplace.

Qualifications / Experience / Additional Information

** Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience in application development and support.
  • Ensure alignment of test cases with technical requirements and support the execution of IST and UAT testing, maintaining documentation in Confluence and JIRA.
  • Comprehensive understanding of QA methodologies, procedures, and standards.
  • Solid grasp of Agile methodologies, with hands-on experience in development techniques and best practices for enterprise frameworks.
  • Experience in Java design and development, particularly in creating and deploying REST web services, JavaScript, and managing services in various environments (Dev / QA / UAT / Prod).
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies regularly.
  • Basic database knowledge.
  • Familiarity with back-end systems like iSeries/AS400.
  • Experience with application frameworks such as Apache Tomcat and WebSphere Application Server (WAS).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating proficiency from both technical and business perspectives.
  • Ability to communicate design concepts effectively to influence decision-making.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a visionary and innovative approach to technology solutions.
  • Exceptional planning and analytical skills, focusing on critical issues.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment and make quick, sound decisions under pressure.
  • Reliability, proactivity, results-orientation, customer focus, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to approach challenges from different angles.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrable experience with common IT organizational technologies and processes.
  • Ability to balance competing goals of various departments/stakeholders, requiring mature negotiation and influencing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of network topologies and common protocols/services (DNS, HTTP(S), SSH, FTP, SMTP).
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (Jira, Jenkins, Gradle, Bitbucket, Artifactory, etc.).
  • Developed leadership skills, along with coaching and training experience.
  • Experience in the Banking/Financial Services sector is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
