Accounting Specialist/Lead Accounting Specialist, International Accounting

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist/Lead Accounting Specialist to join our International Accounting team at American Airlines. This is a critical role that requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities- Support Accounting Operations
Provide day-to-day oversight of disbursements and banking activities, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
- Prepare Financial Reports
Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and associated journal entries, ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
- Support Tax and Statistical Filings
Assist with various tax and statistical filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage Multiple Projects
Work on multiple projects simultaneously, setting deadlines and adjusting priorities as needed to ensure timely completion.
- Present Results and Follow-Through
Present results and follow-through to completion for all initiatives, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders.
- Supervise a Team
Supervise a team daily, providing guidance and support to ensure effective team performance.
- Process Invoices and Payments
Ensure that invoices are processed on time and chase invoices where necessary, ensuring timely payment and resolution of discrepancies.
- Oversee Month-End AP Close
Oversee month-end AP close, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
- Liaise with Vendors and Stations
Liaise with vendors and stations to resolve discrepancies and handle queries that arise in the payment and processing of invoices.
- Perform Timesheet Validation
Perform timesheet validation, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee time and attendance.
- Perform Absence Tracking and Audits
Perform absence tracking and audits, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Process New Hires, Leavers, and Pay Changes
Process new hires, leavers, and pay changes, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee data.
- Perform Pay Plan Reviews
Perform pay plan reviews, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist with Miscellaneous Projects
Assist with miscellaneous projects as assigned, ensuring effective completion and communication of results.
Requirements- Education and Experience
University degree with a focus in accounting or equivalent education/training, and at least 3 years of experience working in an accounting environment.
- Language and Communication Skills
Fluent in verbal and written English, with excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
- Technical Skills
Proficient with PC and Microsoft Office software (e.g., Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint), with strong organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Soft Skills
Ability to deal with confidential subject matter, self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision, and good team player.
Preferred Qualifications- Advanced Education and Certification
Qualified or Part Qualified CPA, ACCA, AAT, MBA or equivalent education/certification.
- Knowledge of Tax Laws and Local Reporting Requirements
Demonstrated knowledge of tax laws and local reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of Airline Accounting Practices

- Knowledge of SAP
