Position Overview

The Protection Capacity Building Specialist will play a vital role within the Danish Refugee Council's Latin America regional office, focusing on initiatives designed to enhance the humanitarian response to address protection challenges arising from mixed migration and displacement scenarios.

This role encompasses conducting assessments of protection and legal aid needs, as well as providing essential technical support and capacity enhancement to local partners.

Furthermore, the Specialist will collaborate with DRC's capacity building teams to deliver technical training to local and national NGOs across various countries in the region, aligning with DRC's commitment to localization and strengthening the protective capacities of national organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Protection Manager and team members to develop and implement protection and legal aid analysis.
  • Provide direct technical support to partners, including monitoring activities and facilitating capacity building as necessary.
  • Create customized training programs based on identified needs for national NGOs, particularly in the area of legal aid.
  • Ensure thorough documentation and reporting of technical support and capacity building outcomes, including adherence to donor requirements.
  • Organize and deliver regional protection training sessions in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with key protection stakeholders at both regional and national levels as needed.
  • Document and share best practices in protection work.
  • Support field operations for partners and selected national NGOs involved in short-term protection projects.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of three years of experience in protection or legal aid humanitarian projects at national or international levels.
  • Strong understanding of International Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law, and International Refugee Law.
  • Field experience in protection or legal aid programming for at least two years.
  • Prior experience with Protection Information Management (PIM) is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret data, and produce high-quality protection and legal aid analyses.
  • Experience in delivering training using adult learning methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and English is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead capacity building initiatives related to humanitarian protection and legal aid.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with a proven ability to build effective partnerships in diverse environments.

Education

Advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in Law, Political Science, Human Rights, or related fields. A combination of relevant academic qualifications and extensive experience may be accepted.

Contract Details

This position is offered on a fixed-term basis, with a duration subject to performance and funding availability. Salary and benefits will be aligned with the Danish Refugee Council's terms for national contracts.
