Job Title: Environmental Specialist – Biodiversity

International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Specialist – Biodiversity to lead our regional activities in Central America, Caribbean, Colombia, and Mexico (CCM).

Job Summary:

The Environmental Specialist – Biodiversity will be responsible for managing biodiversity risks and opportunities in IFC-financed projects in the CCM region. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to develop and implement effective biodiversity management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Screen prospective projects in the CCM region for biodiversity risks and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement biodiversity management plans and programs for IFC-financed projects.
  • Collaborate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to identify and mitigate biodiversity risks.
  • Provide capacity-building and training to clients and stakeholders on biodiversity management.
  • Oversee and coordinate biodiversity consultants working in the CCM region.
  • Track and report on biodiversity risks and opportunities across the portfolio.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as biological or ecological sciences, conservation biology, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in private sector biodiversity management, with a focus on emerging markets.
  • Deep knowledge of biodiversity and ecology in the CCM region.
  • Experience with IFC's Performance Standard 6 (PS6) and Guidance Note (GN) 6 is highly desirable.
  • Strong writing and oral presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, with the ability to work effectively in a large, complex organization.
