Consumer Loan Underwriter

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our team at MD|DC Credit Union Association. As a key member of our lending department, you will be responsible for evaluating loan applications, analyzing creditworthiness, and making independent lending decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate consumer loan applications to determine creditworthiness, risk, and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Analyze credit history, income, and other relevant factors to make informed lending decisions.
  • Verify accuracy of loan calculations and ensure debt-to-income ratios are within acceptable limits.
  • Collaborate with Consumer Loan Advisors to identify cross-selling opportunities and expand product penetration.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of consumer loan products, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current on industry developments and best practices.


Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college preferred.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in consumer loan underwriting and approval, with a proven ability to make sound lending decisions.
  • Completion of a specialized course of study or extensive in-house training program.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain positive relationships and provide exceptional member service.


Work Environment

This position is a remote role. Occasional travel to onsite premises may be required. The candidate must have a quiet, dedicated workspace at home that is secure to protect non-public information. High-speed internet and/or secure Wi-Fi network access are also necessary.
