Sr. Principal Structural Engineer

If you like solving problems and working with complex materials and systems, join our amazing team As a Structural Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to design, evaluate, and certify our cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll examine complex metallic and composite structures and systems. Your technical duties involve the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin and Durham, North Carolina, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations.

Must-haves:
- Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related discipline and typically 17 or more years of relevant experience- Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices- Advanced Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools- Experience with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams- Proficiency in Static and/or Dynamic Analyses- Experience working with metallic and composite materials- Experience working major structural components including wing and fuselage structure- Experience providing technical oversight of suppliers- Experience building and leading technical teams

Preferred:
- Experience in Engineering Simulation using Finite Element structural analysis (FEA) tools such as MSC Patran, Nastran, FEMAP, or ANSYS- Experience performing fatigue and damage tolerance analysis utilizing tools such as NASGRO or AFGROW- Ability to perform classical analysis using industry standard hand calculation methods- Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processes- Ability to author substantiation reports- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $159,430.15 - $219,216.46
