Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

**Main purpose of job**:
The Digital Campaigns and Public Diplomacy Manager will sit within the British Embassy’s Communications team to support the Head of Communications on the development and implementation of the Embassy’s Digital campaigns, content creation, GREAT liaison and public diplomacy work, promoting the UK in Colombia. They will lead the Embassy’s Digital Outreach strategy, as well as coordinating the soft power programmes including the implementation of GREAT campaigns, projects to drive awareness of the Chevening Award, International Leaders and activities with other internal and external stakeholders to promote the UK as a leader in different sectors in Colombia. The role will be key in both boosting visibility and engagement, as well as creating opportunities for the UK in Colombia, across the full range of Embassy priorities. The job holder will also deputise for the Head of Communications as necessary.

**Roles and responsibilities**:
The role comprises of four main areas:

- Lead the implementation of the Embassy’s digital campaigns, including development of creative content, partnerships and engagement to boost profile and visibility amongst target audiences
- Manage the Embassy’s public diplomacy programmes including the implementation of GREAT campaigns, working with partners to develop a regular programme of dynamic events to promote the UK Government’s offer in Colombia.
- Leverage strategic partnerships and programmes to promote the UK and advance Embassy priorities
- As a proactive member of staff, seek opportunities to deliver the Embassy’s soft power strategy, creating strategic engagements to deliver the UK’s work in Colombia.
- Work with the Embassy’s Communication Team, the wider Political Team and Senior Management Team of the Embassy, to deliver projects and opportunities to highlight UK interests and work in Colombia.

**Main responsibilities and activities**:
Digital Strategy (50%)
- Design and implement creative strategies that boost visibility, profile and engagement for the Embassy and the Ambassador amongst key target audiences.
- Generate innovative and interesting content to communicate key messages.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to the digital strategy.
- Work closely with Embassy teams and other stakeholders (British Council etc) to ensure content that is relevant and plays to the Embassy’s priorities.
- Line manage the Digital Coordinator and intern(s).

Public Diplomacy (40%)
- Lead the general management, coordination and implementation of public diplomacy programmes achieving effective value for money and leverage opportunities for the Embassy and the UK (e.g. ILP and alumni community).
- Proactively seek information and opportunities to influence and promote British soft power in Colombia. Make use of the GREAT Brand in country to support policy objectives.
- Manage public diplomacy programme funds to achieve value for money and deliver post objectives
- Maintain excellent relationship with the Embassy’s key stakeholders and promote successful relationships with contacts.
- Demonstrate effective project management skills to deliver adequate programming, event coordination and optimisation of resources.
- Effectively communicate public diplomacy campaigns to support the Embassy’s wider policy objectives.
- Serve as the main point of contact with the British Council and for all cultural, educational and sports activities.
- Be a proactive member of the Embassy to liaise with British Council and all Embassy and sections.

GREAT Campaign (10%)
- Seek opportunities and deliver high-quality events to promote the GREAT Campaign in working with colleagues in the Communications Team and other wider embassy teams.
- Support with the evaluation of GREAT Challenge Fund projects.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

- Manage 1 -2 staff members.
- Manage Special Projects between £20,000-£100,000.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

**Essential on arrival**:

- Excellent project management skills.
- Experience working on creative digital and public diplomacy campaigns and content creation.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Extensive knowledge of design, production, creative and other technology software.
- Photographic/filming skills.
- Excellent spoken and written communication in English / Spanish.

**Language requirements**:
Language: English - Full proficiency and Spanish - Full proficiency.

Level of language required: B2-C1
