Headquartered in New York City, the non-profit, non-partisan organization has regional offices in Bogota, Geneva, Nairobi, and Washington, DC, and a staff of approximately 200 diverse professionals. The Center’s compelling human rights mission and reputation for excellence and cutting-edge legal work has powered its exceptional growth trajectory to an operating budget of over $40 million and won the respect of the world’s leading law firms, as reflected in the additional $29 million annually in donated legal services, representing the work last year of 820 lawyers in 46 countries.
The overarching goal of the Center’s new Strategic Plan sets a high mark for impact: By 2030, half of the world’s population will be living under stronger protections for reproductive rights than they do today. The Center has a track record of success to back up this ambitious goal. Since its founding in 1992, the Center’s game-changing litigation and advocacy, combined with its unparalleled expertise in constitutional, comparative, and international human rights law, have transformed how reproductive rights are understood by courts, governments, and human rights bodies worldwide on issues including maternal health, contraception, abortion, and assisted reproduction. It has won groundbreaking cases before national courts, U.N. Committees, and regional human rights bodies, led the development of historic, proactive legislation advancing robust protections for reproductive rights, and has built the legal capacity of women’s rights advocates in more than 60 countries and counting.
**The Role**: The Senior Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, Pro Bono Services, reports directly to the Senior Director for Pro Bono Services and the Associate Director, Legal Strategies for Latin America and the Caribbean. The individual in this role will assist in deepening and leading the development and expansion of the Center’s network of pro bono resources in Latin America and the Caribbean, raising the Center’s profile in the legal community, and collaboratively work with Center staff, regional NGOs, the local bar, and the private law firm sector to institutionalize pro bono in the LAC region. The Senior Manager will collaboratively develop and advance a proactive pro bono agenda to support the Center’s strategy to build, defend, and enforce reproductive rights through an expansive pro bono network and the development of pro bono partnership models to increase and optimize the Center’s litigation and advocacy capacity. In collaboration with colleagues in the Center’s Pro Bono Program and the Regional LAC Program, the Senior Manager will ensure the Center’s visibility and leadership on issues related to pro bono and connect the regional pro bono engagement to the Center’s pro bono efforts in other regions.
This position is based in Bogota, Colombia.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
Assist in conceptualizing, designing, and implementing a pro bono agenda to expand and deepen the network of pro bono law firms and attorneys in Latin America and the Caribbean according to LAC strategies and work plan priorities.
Lead the recruitment and management of the LAC regional pro bono and advocacy network through cultivation meetings, Center presentations, and collaboration with Center staff including working closely with the Associate Director, Legal Strategies and Program Manager for LAC.
In collaboration with the pro bono team, manage the referral of pro bono projects, and facilitate the relationship between pro bono attorneys and the Center liaison for the project.
Work with the Senior Regional Director and Associate Director, Legal Strategies for LAC to fully integrate pro bono into all aspects of the regions litigation and advocacy strategy to advance reproductive rights.
Collaborate with staff to develop pro bono projects and models to address specific regional challenges.
Assist in building, managing and cultivating clearinghouses for the legal representation of clients and other partners who may face common legal issues or litigation.
Build the capacity of regional partners through the engagement of pro bono resources and act as the liaison for the relationships between the Center’s partners and pro bono law firms.
Assist in the development of onboarding and capacity building programs for new pro bono partners.
Participate in regional, national, and local pro bono working groups, committees, professional associations, coalitions, and networks to ensure the Center’s visibility and solidify its leadership in advancing a pro bono culture in the region.
