**General Background**

Chemonics UK is seeking to hire a qualified Deputy Team Leader who will support the Team Leader in the overall technical and administrative management of the anticipated UK government funded Territorios Forestales Sostenibles, Pillar 3 (TEFOS P3) programme, which will support Colombia in supporting sustainable livelihoods in prioritised deforestation hotspots, through:

- Increasing communities’ skills and knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and sustainable forest management to protect and increase forest cover.
- Promoting commercialisation and improving market access for sustainable commodities and services through public-private partnerships that protect standing forests.
- Promoting conservation incentives in areas with land use restrictions.

**Role Purpose
The Deputy Team Leader will support the Team Leader with the delivery of the programme and will be the first point of escalation. You will work with the Team Leader to oversee the long-term team members, short term experts and long and short-term local staff in achieving project results. You will oversee technical leads whilst working closely with the programme management and operational staff.. This role will also require regular reporting to the Team Leader, Chemonics and key stakeholders, including the client. An understanding of sustainable agricultural practices, how to strengthen value chains in Colombia, forest management and conservation policy is highly desirable.

**Key responsibilities**
- Working closely with the Team Leader, supporting them to successfully deliver the overall programme, and acting as Team Leader in their absence.
- Helping to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, while ensuring that Chemonics and the client’s policies and best practices are always adhered to.
- Engaging with government stakeholders, private sector organisations, key partner organisations and local communities as required.
- Ensuring contractual deliverables are met, and anticipating any delays that may occur in a timely manner, identifying risks and providing solutions.
- Drafting and compilation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting to the client and Chemonics on all programme areas.
- Supporting the Team Leader in ensuring good relations with donor agencies and local implementing partners.
- Ensuring good, frequent, and direct communications with the client and Chemonics.

**Experience, Skills and Qualifications**
- A post-graduate degree or relevant professional experience in such sectors as environmental studies, environmental management, public/business administration, economics, international relations, or other relevant field preferred.
- Experience in economic development and value chain creation, deforestation mitigation, climate change mitigation, or other relevant technical areas preferred.
- Demonstrated progressive supervisory experience.
- Recent experience working in Colombia on complex donor-funded projects. Experience working in the Amazon region preferred.
- Experience leading UK government funded or other international donor funded programmes preferred.
- Familiarity with international cooperation projects in Colombia, relevant environmental authorities, government agencies and the private sector.
- Strong project management skills, preferably with experience in managing activities such as budget management, communications, and ensuring contractual obligations are being met.
- Demonstrated innovation in approaches and flexibility to learn and adapt based on experience.
- A proven ability to work collaboratively with international donors.
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in Bogotá office, or in the Amazon region of Colombia, with frequent travel between project locations.
