Succeed the Shared Conservation Agenda ́s ambitious results in three prioritized iconic landscapes: Amazon, Orinoquia and Magdalena, through lasting systemic changes that allow people and nature to thrive.

Close alignment with the Colombia's Conservation Programs, the Science, Policy, and Communications teams, and guarantees the connection between local, LAR and Global organizational outcomes will be required.

The Sustainable Markets Specialist (SMS) will support the implementation of TEFOS III Program (a funded United Kingdom Government's cooperation strategy) that aims "to improve the livelihoods of people living in prioritised conflict-affected, deforestation hotspots, ensuring that forests are increasingly valued, and incentives are established that encourage local stewardship of the forests and a reduction in deforestation and conflict in the Amazonas Region." The focus of this program will be to kickstart projects, promote public-private partnerships, and improve the capacity of business to meet market demands.

The SMS will coordinate actions to both stimulate demand and improve the supply of sustainably produced commodities. She/He will be also responsible for fostering partnerships to commercialize products and facilitate market access. The position is overseen by the Sustainable Productive System Leader.

The Specialist uses TNC code of conduct and competencies as a baseline to conduct their actions and set example for others.


In particular, the SMS performs the following actions:

  • Provides technical leadership and support to Colombia's conservation program by promoting and facilitating linkages between producers and buyers and leveraging market forces to drive supply chain transformation.
  • Stays updated on market trends and sustainability initiatives related to timber, nontimber forest products, agriculture and cattle ranching sectors.
  • Identifies potential opportunities for collaboration with different market actors and develops outreach strategies to engage them in effective collaborations always ensuring that conservation goals are prioritized.
  • Advises and implements innovative inclusive business models along selected and prioritized value chains in TNC's regions of interest, under sustainability and zerodeforestation approaches.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Stay up to date on the portfolio of productive initiatives under implementation by TNC Colombia and identify potential linkages to developing or strengthening sustainable supply chains.
  • Identify potential local, national, and international markets for sustainable products that can be sourced from TNC initiatives, or conversely, market needs that can be met via TNC's work.
  • Work with Development to maintain an updated database of private market and sector (gremios) actors whose goals align with TNC's and build and maintain relations with them.
  • Support the Public Policy team in identifying opportunities to support government priorities by strengthening sustainable supply chains and crafting appropriate messages.
  • Support the Sustainable Finance team in identifying key private sector needs and innovative financial mechanisms that enable the scaling of sustainable production systems.
  • Lead collaborations with private business partners in the development of accountability frameworks, codes of conduct, or related processes intended to improve and verify sustainability in their supply chains.
  • Supervise contracts related to development of business cases, codes of conduct, financial mechanisms, or other work related to the supply chains relevant to the different conservation projects.
  • Stay up to date on innovative sustainable market approaches within TNC's Regenerative Food Systems Initiative and identify potential to leverage them for local projects.
  • Act as TNC's focal point for a selected region in a variety of multistakeholder platforms and productive sector events related to sustainable sourcing and production.
  • Manage multidisciplinary administrative and professional staff, with responsibility for performance management, training, and career development.
