Purpose
Leads and oversees the Development and Operation of critical data assets/data models serving International Banking Analytics, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities

• Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
• Functions as senior member of an agile team and helps drive consistent development practices, tools usage, common components, and patterns.
• Guides data development teams through coaching sessions or mentorship to secure full understanding of Operational model and development practices.
• Follows product leader and product owner direction to ensure requirements are met and delivered accurately and in a timely manner.
• Manage developers' team to maintain a high quality for data pipelines and data models via the establishment of good habits and practices.
• Observe standardized development practices across the entire data cycle, stablishing collaboration with data producers and data consumers. Closing resource and dedication gaps when required.
• Support the creation and review of processes and technical artifacts supporting the creation of pipeline documentation (code location, purpose, ownership, processing logic, etc.)
• Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
• Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Requirements

• Required to be proficient in English
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or related field or relevant experience
• Industry experience as a project leader/manager
• 5+ years experience working as a Data Engineer and/or architect.
• Strong proficiency in SQL , Spark and Google Cloud
• Data modelling and warehousing experience would be a plus
• Proficiency with relational databases (Oracle, DB2, MYSQL, Redshift, etc.)

Assets

• Proficient in a variety of languages including Python, Scala, Javascript
• API development experience
• Experience working with PowerBI
• Experience in microservices architectures would be a plus
• Experience working with distributed computing technologies (Spark , Kafka , Hive , Trino)
• Experience working in an Agile team environment.
• Industry experience with big data technology.
• Experience working in Retail/Risk Banking Domain is an asset
