The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced Android Engineer to build and maintain the core Android application, contributing to solutions from inception to deployment. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of experience developing native Android applications using Kotlin and a passion for building reusable, reliable code that supports rapid iteration and innovation.
What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities):
- Innovate and Develop: Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Kotlin code for our Android application.
- Collaborate: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to define, design, and ship new features.
- Enhance User Experience: Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications to provide an exceptional user experience.
- Mentor and Lead: Regularly review code, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior team members to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Drive Technical Excellence: Identify bottlenecks and bugs, devise solutions to address and mitigate these issues, and help maintain code quality and organization.
Our Core Tooling & Concepts:
- Languages: Kotlin, Java
- Frameworks: Jetpack Compose, Android Views/XML, Jetpack Navigation, Room, and Jetpack Animation/Lottie
- Architecture: MVVM, MVP, and other mobile architectural patterns
- Integration: RESTful APIs, CI/CD (CircleCI)
- Design: Google's Material Design principles, Figma/Sketch
- Version Control: Git
What We're Looking For (Qualifications):
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience developing native Android applications using Kotlin, with a solid understanding of Java.
- Frameworks: Experience with modern Android frameworks such as Jetpack Compose, Android Views/XML, Jetpack Navigation, Room, and Jetpack Animation/Lottie.
- Architecture: Understanding of various mobile architectural patterns (MVVM, MVP, etc.).
- API Integration: Comfortable working with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.
- Quality: Experienced in writing test cases, test automation scripts, and profiling mobile apps to address performance concerns.
- CI/CD: Proficient with Git and familiar with continuous integration and delivery tools like CircleCI.
- Collaboration: Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders, unblocking challenges by asking the right questions.
Bonus Points For Experience With:
- Experience with Functional Reactive Programming using Couroutines or Rx.
- Implementing a UI automation testing environment on an Android app.
- Working with various payment providers such as Stripe or PayPal.
- Understanding of mobile app security best practices.
