ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. On average, WFP reaches more than 100 million people with food assistance in 88 countries each year. About 20,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor. WFP is part of the United Nations system.

WFP volunteers donate their services to the Programme. It provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience working in an international professional environment and provides exposure to a truly global humanitarian organisation.

All individuals holding volunteer agreement or those to be offered volunteer opportunities in the WFP Colombia Country Office will be screened and cleared by the HR unit prior to offering a volunteer agreement, and upon extension or renewal.

There is no compensation for such volunteer services.

JOB PURPOSE

The WFP Volunteer (Strategic Partnerships) will work under the overall supervision of the Partnerships Officer and support the Strategic Partnerships Unit. The Unit leads engagement with governments, the private sector, foundations, international financial institutions, and other strategic actors to strengthen WFP's mission in Colombia.

The volunteer will contribute to deepening WFP's engagement with private sector actors, business associations, and partners involved in productive and livelihoods initiatives. The role will also include support to initiatives and analyses connecting public–private collaboration with resilience-building, value chains, and sustainable livelihoods. This may include providing inputs to ongoing resource mobilization efforts, while also supporting broader public–private partnership initiatives across the portfolio.

Content and Products

  • Private Sector Engagement & Public–Private Initiatives:

    • Support the mapping, engagement and follow-up with private companies, business associations, chambers of commerce, and actors linked to value chains and food systems.

    • Assist in identifying partnership opportunities related to resilience, adaptation, productive projects, livelihoods, and market linkages.

    • Prepare meeting notes, briefs, and background documents for strategic engagements with private sector partners.

  • Support to Resilience, Food Systems and Livelihoods Initiatives:

    • Conduct desk research and prepare summaries related to climate resilience, food systems, markets, and adaptation approaches relevant to WFP programming.

    • Support coordination with programmatic units (livelihoods, gender, field offices) to gather inputs for analysis, concept notes, and partnership proposals.

    • Contribute to systematization of experiences and lessons learned from productive and market-oriented projects.

  •  Support to Resource Mobilization

    • Provide inputs to the private sector and livelihoods-related components of funding proposals and concept notes.

    • Assist in drafting sections related to climate resilience, food systems, public–private collaboration and enabling policy frameworks.

    • Consolidate information received from internal teams to support narrative development and partner engagement.

  • Knowledge Management & Stakeholder Analysis

    • Support stakeholder mapping across private sector, IFIs, UN agencies, research institutions, and foundations.

    • Draft short analyses, internal notes, and summaries to inform internal decision-making and partnership strategy.

    •  Assist in preparing briefing packages and documentation for meetings, missions, and strategic dialogues.

  •  Administrative and General Support

    • Prepare PowerPoint presentations, talking points, and other materials for internal and external meetings.

    • Support organizing meetings, webinars, workshops, and events involving private sector and strategic partners.

    • Complete other projects as assigned, including preparing engaging mailings and PowerPoint presentations.

STANDARD MINIMUN QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Enrolled or recently graduated from a recognized university in International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, or related fields

Experience:

  • Experience supporting policy or partnerships work in international, research, or multilateral settings is desirable.

  •  Background in drafting briefs, concept notes, or analytical documents for decision-making is an asset.

  • Experience with stakeholder mapping, event coordination, or engagement in global or regional policy dialogues (e.g., climate, biodiversity, food systems) is desirable.

  • Prior involvement with UN agencies, international NGOs, or academic policy groups is an advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and synthesize complex information.

Language: Fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written communication).

Working knowledge of an additional language such as Italian or French is an asset.

Planning and Organizing: Capacity to manage several priorities, support event planning or meeting logistics, and deliver outputs in a timely manner.

Continuous Learning: Interest in areas such as climate, resilience, food systems, development policy, or partnerships, and willingness to stay informed about global policy trends.

Technological Awareness: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to work with online research tools and virtual collaboration platforms.

Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in multicultural, multidisciplinary environments.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise, clear and engaging materials for internal and external audiences.
