As we scale, we need a detail-oriented financial professional who can bring structure, accuracy, and strategic insight to our financial operations. This role is essential to ensuring our business runs smoothly behind the scenes while we focus on delivering exceptional products to our customers.

The Role

We're seeking an experienced Accountant / Controller to manage our day-to-day financial operations and provide the financial foundation that supports our growth. You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing invoicing and payments, overseeing budgeting processes, and delivering clear financial reporting that helps leadership make informed decisions.

This is not just a bookkeeping role—we need someone who can think strategically about our finances, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure we maintain healthy cash flow and financial practices as we expand.

What You'll Do

Financial Operations & Bookkeeping

• Manage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Process and track invoices, payments, and vendor relationships
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and payment processor accounts (Shopify, PayPal, Stripe, etc.)
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accounting software
• Ensure timely payment of all business obligations including vendors, contractors, and service providers

Budgeting & Financial Planning

• Develop and maintain monthly and annual budgets
• Monitor actual spending against budgets and flag variances
• Forecast cash flow needs and provide recommendations for financial planning
• Track and analyze cost of goods sold (COGS), marketing spend, and operational expenses

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare monthly financial reports including profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
• Provide clear, actionable insights on financial performance to leadership
• Track key financial metrics relevant to DTC e-commerce (customer acquisition cost, average order value, margins, etc.)
• Support year-end tax preparation by maintaining organized records and documentation

Compliance & Best Practices

• Ensure compliance with relevant tax obligations and filing deadlines
• Maintain organized financial documentation for audit readiness
• Implement and refine financial processes and systems as the business grows
• Coordinate with external accountants or tax professionals as needed

Essential Experience

• Proven experience as an accountant, bookkeeper, or controller, preferably for DTC e-commerce or consumer brands
• Strong understanding of e-commerce financial operations including payment processors, shipping costs, inventory management, and sales tax
• Experience managing the full accounting cycle from invoicing through financial reporting

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar platforms)
• Comfortable working with e-commerce platforms (Shopify preferred) and payment systems
• Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills for financial modeling and analysis
• Familiarity with financial reporting and budget management tools

Nice-to-Haves

• Formal accounting certification (CPA, CMA, or equivalent)
• Experience with beauty, skincare, or luxury consumer brands
• Knowledge of international payments and multi-currency accounting
• Familiarity with inventory accounting and COGS tracking
• Experience with payroll processing
• Understanding of sales tax compliance for e-commerce (Nexus, tax collection, filing)
