What you’ll do:
The Engineering Development Manager will manage and coordinate all design and closely liaise construction aspects of renewable energy projects and transmission infrastructure from development through the completion of construction and transition to operations. Reporting to the Director, Technical Development for Latin America, you will play a key role in the development of our projects by ensuring delivery of engineering design of projects at various stages of their lifecycle. You will also manage all third-party engineering and design work while collaborating with the broader Engineering team to ensure compliance with Northland’s technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for technical issues and requirements for assigned projects. Develop engineering design specifications and scopes of work with the help of the broader Engineering team or third-party engineers as necessary.
- Plan and coordinate budget and project engineering related cost as well as internal and external resources for technical due diligence of renewable energy projects and transmission infrastructure projects.
- Develop project pre-construction and construction schedules while considering remaining project development activities and permitting timelines.
- In coordination with the project team and third-party engineers, develop and issue Request for Proposals (RFPs) for engineering work, evaluate the submissions and make recommendations on selection.
- Manage, support, supervise, review and incorporate findings in the project design from third-party contractors performing field activities such as geotech, hydrological and topographical, among others.
- Support the project development during the technical/commercial optimization phase through the preparation of preliminary designs, bills of quantities and cost estimate benchmarks.
- Accountable for early energy production, capex and opex estimates for projects in the development pipeline. Identify value add and profitability and make recommendations to optimize project economics.
- Identify the technical risks of projects that affect profitability together with developing mitigation strategies.
- Review and support the negotiations of EPC contracts and other construction or equipment supply agreements. Develop and implement an efficient reporting strategy including, but not limited to, tracking resources and cost control of engineering requirements including tracking of any contractual requirements.
- Accountable for the quality of the project technical concepts and technical analyses to support project construction and development activities in accordance with the Company strategy and standards.
- Responsible for managing Interconnection studies to support interconnection process for projects in the development pipeline.
- For specific projects, define profile for Project Manager/Director and assist in the search and recruitment of the position.
