Locations: Colombia only (remote) Come join us at Odisea Cultura and work with some of the most exciting start-ups in the US We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to be the second employee at Entropy, acting as a technical co-founder (Acting CTO). This is a high-impact, 100% hands-on role for an exceptional engineer who thrives in the early stages of a company and is eager to take on an expansive set of responsibilities. About Entropy Founded in 2020 by Dave Hettinger, Entropy advises construction industry players (owners, contractors) on how to navigate "problem projects"—high-risk endeavors that could erase significant financial gains. We have worked as external advisors on several projects with some of the world's largest contractors. We are evolving from an advisory service to a tech-enabled service model. We are launching "v2" of our risk management platform, designed to be used primarily by clients, to automate a portion of our services and enhance the overall customer experience. The Role: 100% Hands-On, Partnering for Growth As the Founding Software Engineer, you will partner directly with the Founder to set the technical strategy and execute the development plan for the client-facing platform. Your comfort and experience working in small, fast-moving companies (Startup Mindset) is crucial. This role requires a unique blend of strategic thinking and deep, hands-on coding expertise, as you will be grooming your own tasks and driving development without a support team. Key Responsibilities: Lead the Product and Platform: Launch the "v2" risk management platform for the construction industry. Architect the backend for security and scalability, and ensure the application is stable and ready for launch. Customer & Product Engagement: Pitch & Sell the Vision: Work closely with the Founder to articulate the platform's value and technical roadmap. Client Collaboration: Participate in user roundtable discussions with clients to seek real-time feedback, observe behavior, and address pain points within a monthly cadence. You will be a face of the product. Hands-On Development: Build the Core: Determine and recommend the back-end architecture and scaffolding. New Features: Build out additional features, including leveraging AI technologies (LLM, Agents) where applicable to deliver client value. Quality & Maintenance: Deliver clean, maintainable, self-tested code. Perform regular maintenance, upkeep, troubleshooting, and testing. Company Builder: Embrace a pitch-in-to-do-everything mentality, with high-cadence collaboration (daily async updates and frequent touchpoints) to keep the Founder aligned in a fast-moving environment. What We Are Looking For You are an autonomous, hands-on, and strategic leader who can translate requirements into code and thrive in an environment where you are building the plane while flying it. Required Skills & Experience: 10+ years of backend experience with a proven track record of shipping production-ready code in small team environments. Core Backend Stack: Node.js (NestJS), PostgreSQL or similar. Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS cloud (especially Textract, Bedrock, Cognito), Docker, GitHub Actions. Experience working with product and wiring frontend/backend connections, as well as developing and consuming APIs. AI Comfort: Curiosity and proficiency with LLM tools and AI-assisted development (Copilot, Cursor, GPT/Claude), with the ability to review, validate, and improve AI-generated code. Soft Skills for a Founding Role: Self-Motivation & Ownership: Proactively identify what needs to be done and drive tasks forward without waiting for detailed instructions. Problem-Solving & Creativity: Propose thoughtful solutions and approaches to challenges, not just flag them. Clear, Proactive Communication: Comfortable discussing technical tradeoffs in real time. Nice to Have: Frontend experience with React/Next.js, TypeScript, Python (FastAPI). Familiarity with no-code/low-code systems (Bubble).
