Interim Director of Supply Chain — Stabilization, Optimization & Performance Recovery Location: Remote with travel as needed (increased onsite support during first 45–60 days). Reporting Structure: Reports to COO & PE Operating Partner; partners closely with CFO, Director of Procurement, Plant/Site Operations Leaders, and Logistics/Distribution Teams. Position Overview A private‑equity–backed operating company experiencing supply chain instability and margin erosion is seeking an Interim Director of Supply Chain to rapidly stabilize procurement, streamline fulfillment, restore service levels, and rebuild end‑to‑end operational discipline. The business is facing material constraints around inventory visibility, slow vendor turnaround, rising logistics costs, and insufficient forecasting accuracy. The incoming leader will be responsible for controlling the movement of goods, resetting planning rigor, and re‑establishing a high‑accountability operating cadence from suppliers to customer delivery. This role requires a hands‑on operator with deep execution experience — someone who can assess quickly, rebuild process infrastructure, strengthen vendor performance, lead negotiations, and deliver measurable improvements in cost, fulfillment speed, and supply continuity. Key Responsibilities Rapid assessment of current supply chain maturity—people, systems, suppliers, logistics, and inventory structure. Establish 90‑day stabilization plan to restore on‑time delivery, improve vendor reliability, and reduce expedite costs. Implement real‑time inventory visibility metrics, SKU‑level tracking, allocation controls, and service‑level monitoring. Renegotiate contracts & pricing agreements to address inflationary pressure and margin compression. Tier supplier base by criticality, develop backup suppliers, de‑risk concentration exposure, and introduce accountability scorecards. Improve procurement cycle efficiency by redesigning approval flow, PO cadence, and supplier forecasting expectations. Evaluate distribution and shipping strategy—route utilization, freight spend, DC footprint efficiency. Drive improvements to outbound shipping accuracy, warehouse flow, slotting, picking efficiency, and throughput rate. Reduce logistics cost per unit shipped via mode optimization, carrier renegotiation, and inventory positioning strategy. S&OP, Demand Planning & Forecasting Discipline Build/upgrade S&OP process with weekly demand signals, forecast accuracy KPIs, and cross‑functional planning alignment. Develop consumption‑based forecasts and SKU‑level replenishment models for high‑volume/high‑margin products. Implement reporting cadence tied to capacity, backlog, lead times, safety stock, and margin impact. Operational KPI & Management Cadence Stand up dashboards for fill‑rate, forecast accuracy, supplier performance, DIO, freight cost per unit, and working‑capital turns. Establish weekly performance reviews with Operations, Sales, and Finance to surface issues and drive alignment. Create scalable standard operating procedures to ensure continuity well beyond the engagement. Qualifications 10–15+ years of end‑to‑end supply chain leadership, ideally in PE‑backed manufacturing, distribution, or multi‑site operations. Track record of stabilizing distressed or capacity‑constrained supply chains with measurable margin & service‑level impact. Expertise in procurement, logistics, forecasting, S&OP, inventory optimization, supplier negotiations & cost reduction. Strong operational command, able to create structure fast, drive accountability, and execute under urgency. Experience with ERP/MRP planning tools & related inventory technologies. Engagement Model 6‑month engagement with strong likelihood of extension or conversion based on continuity needs. Remote engagement with on‑site presence front‑loaded during assessment + key execution periods. High accountability visibility to COO and PE sponsor with weekly KPI review & milestone tracking.
