About The Client They are solving a critical problem for the American homeowner - the exploding cost of homeowners insurance - specifically in natural catastrophe heavy areas. From south Texas to woodland California to the New Jersey shore, consumers are being asked to pay thousands more in insurance premiums every year. For decades, the insurance industry has met the needs of these consumers with a transaction based in PDFs and faxes, and underwriting based on anecdote and human experience. Risk isnt priced accurately, the sale is high friction and confusing, and those who bear the risk have lost over $100b in the past year. This is a $30b TAM space where software can create massive value across multiple dimensions; the client is building a platform connecting the dots between whats best for consumers, insurance agents and reinsurers. Their progress Bootstrapped our way to market and material revenue in a highly regulated vertical in the most difficult market conditions in fifty years Cofounders inked deals with some of the most sophisticated carriers and insurance retailers in the world as a tiny team Significantly exceeding traditional venture-backed SaaS growth metrics with fantastic unit economics - with super sticky relationships Launching several new insurance products and building product surfaces that massively impact user satisfaction What they have built Digital sales tooling enabling a 90-second sale, vs multi-day phone/email/fax-based transaction, in a deeply regulated, highly-nuanced industry rife with adverse selection Direct integration with several underwriting teams at Lloyds of London and global speciality insurers focused on natural catastrophe risk Orchestration middleware that drives the full policy lifecycle: quote, issue, endorse, cancel, reinstate, and renewal Transactional workflow and batch pipelines for automating complex clerical tasks, such as notifying lenders to scheduling inspections and auto-renewing policies Internal tools for our underwriting, finops and CSR teams An API allowing us to deliver offers into digital insurance marketplaces and affinity distribution channels Custom pricing and underwriting engine that allows us to launch and manage our own insurance programs; we're solving the capital allocation problem from first principles What they want to build A centralized, data warehouse for all business data, including: agent activity, sales funnel, conversions, andrisk-related data. This is a significant aspect of our long term product evolution across all our user categories Refactor our current lender-billing, tax reports, and inspection data pipelines to handle 10x our current transaction volume Notebooks and underwriting analysis tooling to enable data scientists and underwriting to more accurately price risk Who we think this is a great role for A product-minded engineer looking to be the first backend-focused hire Someone eager to build in a high-agility environment in a post-PMF, post revenue startup which is rapidly building tech/product to sustain growth. Everything you build will be critical to Annexs success Have experience working in an environment with strong engineering culture, and looking to bring that discipline to the pace of a startup Excited by working on a variety of product and engineering challenges - we're still in the build phase, less the optimize phase A person with an interest in the intersection of climate and financial services.
