Director of Software Engineering

We are looking for a Director of Software Engineering to lead the technical delivery strategy for our internal companies. This role requires a leader who combines expertise in Solution/Enterprise Architecture with operational excellence. You will run the engineering department with a "Software Factory" mindset—prioritizing standardized processes, predictable delivery, and metric-driven resource allocation to support the firm's internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Data-Driven Governance & Resource Allocation Metric Ownership: Implement and monitor specific engineering KPIs to measure department health. You are responsible for reporting on: Time to Market: Cycle time from requirement to production for internal tools. Workflow Efficiency: Flow efficiency, bottleneck analysis, and throughput. Financial Performance: Cost-per-feature, cloud cost optimization (FinOps), and budget adherence. Quality: Change failure rate, mean time to recovery (MTTR), and defect density. Capacity Planning: Manage team distribution across various internal product lines. Use data to justify headcount and allocate resources dynamically based on business priority. Architecture & Technical Strategy Hands‑on Architecture: Draw upon your background in Solution and Enterprise Architecture to oversee the design of complex, scalable systems. Technical Standardization: Enforce architectural standards across all teams to prevent fragmentation and ensure consistency. Ensure internal tools are interoperable and secure. Legacy Modernization: Lead the strategy for migrating or integrating legacy legal‑tech systems with modern architecture. Software Factory Operations (Internal) Process Industrialization: Treat internal software delivery as a pipeline. Standardize CI/CD, testing frameworks, and documentation requirements to reduce friction. Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison between Engineering and Internal Business Units (the "Internal Clients"). Translate their legal/business requirements into technical execution plans. Risk Management: Ensure all software development aligns with strict compliance, security, and data privacy standards required in the legal industry. Talent & Developer Experience Retention & Culture: Measure "Developer Experience" through surveys and retention data. Remove friction from the developer workflow to ensure high productivity. Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to Engineering Managers and Tech Leads. Qualifications Experience: 13+ years of total experience in the software industry. 5+ years in a leadership position (Director or Head of Engineering) managing multiple teams. Experience working in a Corporate Environment serving internal customers or in a large‑scale product organization. Technical Background: Must have a proven background in Software Development (hands‑on coding experience in past roles). Demonstrable experience in Solution and Enterprise Architecture. You must be capable of auditing code and architecture diagrams. Operational Approach: Experience implementing "Software Factory" models: Standardized delivery, component reuse, and strict measuring of output. Language: Bilingual: English (B2/C1) and Spanish. Must be able to articulate complex technical concepts to English‑speaking executive leadership. Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent. (Must) Certifications in any Cloud Provider (optional) Master's Degree in Software Engineering or equivalent.
