About the Role

At Ernest Energy Inc., we are seeking a skilled VDC Mechanical Designer to support our virtual design and construction efforts. This is a remote contract position that requires a detail-oriented individual with expertise in designing and marking up HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed layouts, schematics, and mark-ups for mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with U.S. mechanical codes and industry standards.

  • Collaborate with engineers and contractors to create accurate 2D and 3D models using AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam, resolving conflicts before construction.

  • Provide pre-construction support to project teams, offering mechanical design expertise to ensure constructability and efficiency.

  • Analyze mechanical plans, perform quality checks, and recommend improvements for compliance and efficiency.

  • Perform load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selection, ensuring designs comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC, and local codes.

  • Prepare technical reports, submittals, and drawings for review and approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in VDC mechanical design, preferably for U.S. projects.

  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar mechanical design tools.

  • Strong understanding of ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC, and other U.S. mechanical codes.

  • Proficiency in English, with ability to collaborate with U.S.-based teams.

  • Ability to troubleshoot design challenges and propose solutions.

  • High level of accuracy in drawings, calculations, and documentation.

  • Reliable internet connection and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
