Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ethics Specialist Lead for Human Subject Research to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our research projects meet the highest ethical standards.

About the Position

The Associate Director General Unit is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Associate Officer in the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB ensures that research conducted within the institution complies with ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the IRB: Guiding the committee in ethical review processes, ensuring the effective operation of the IRB, impartial decision-making, and compliance with international ethical standards.
  • Update the Committee and Research Community: Providing emerging trends and issues in research ethics to the IRB and Alliance research community.
  • Ensure Training Compliance: Ensuring that reviewers complete necessary training at the Alliance learning platform to conduct reviews according to required ethical standards.
  • Develop Reviewer Manual: Creating a manual for IRB reviewers for more standardized and objective reviews without bias.
  • Provide Guidance: Offering guidance to IRB members to enhance their understanding of ethical research principles and review procedures.
  • Evaluate Research Studies: Evaluating research studies, communicating IRB decisions to researchers, and providing clear explanations for determinations made.
  • Promote Ethical Research Culture: Promoting a culture of ethical research within the institution, encouraging researchers to prioritize participant welfare, and advocating for ethical considerations in research design, conduct, and dissemination.
  • Represent the IRB: Representing the IRB in meetings with institutional leadership and reporting on IRB activities and outcomes.

Salary Information

This is a national recruited position placed at a BG08 salary scale, with a fixed-term contract of one year period at 50% of a full-time workload, subject to a probation period according to local legislation.

Requirements

  • Education: Degree in bioethics, law, psychology, sociology, anthropology, or a related social discipline with advanced degree or experience in research ethics, human subjects research, or social-behavioral research.
  • Experience: Minimal 4 years of experience with international regulations, ethical guidelines, and legal frameworks for research involving human subjects.
  • Languages: Advance English level in both written and spoken.
  • Competences: Leadership, decision-making, collaboration, integrity, and attention to detail.
