Job Title: Public Information Officer

Join the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia as a Public Information Officer and play a crucial role in shaping the narrative around the mission's work.

About the Role

This position is located in the Strategic Communications and Public Information Unit of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC). The incumbent will be based in Bogota and will report to the Head of Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG).

Responsibilities
  1. Advising and supporting senior Mission leadership on communications matters and providing leadership, strategic vision and management to the Strategic Communications and Public Information Unit.
  2. Overseeing outreach activities to local media, civil society organizations, Government and National NGOs.
  3. Building communication capacity with national partners and strengthening local partnerships.
  4. Preparing or coordinating the development of communications products and content in local language(s).
  5. Implementing communications strategies and activities.
  6. Providing support to internal communications.
Requirements

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience working in the design and management of communications and public relations strategies, crisis communications and journalism, is required. Experience managing communications teams is required. Experience working on peace-related communications is desirable. Experience advising senior leadership in United Nations, international organizations, governmental or non-governmental organizations, on communication strategies is desirable. Experience developing and managing budgets is desirable.

Language Requirements

Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Additional Information

Candidates for the National Professional Officer category shall be of the nationality of the country where this position is located. Appointment or assignment against this position is for an initial period of one year. The appointment or assignment and renewal thereof are subject to the availability of the post or funds, budgetary approval or extension of the mandate.
