This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Director oversees the development and operations of their assigned overall child care program and/or assigned child care sites, ensuring the program meets its intended goals. Stationed at an off-site location, the Youth Director will have direct supervision of one site location. This position also serves as the liaison between the school administration (or other off-site location) and faculty, the Y, and the Y Site Coordinator. The Youth Director supports the Site Coordinators in the daily supervision of program participants and provides guidance and assistance to them in the planning, development, and implementation of program components and activities.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:

- Manages school-aged childcare programs, including developing and monitoring the program budget to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in the program; securing, scheduling, and maintaining the needed facilities; creating and scheduling the activities or events; and maintaining program records or files.
- Works with assigned Site Coordinators to administer the day-to-day operation of programs, ensuring that all the program components and SOPs are adhered to.
- Oversees Site Coordinators to monitor staff schedules at all times, modifying it as necessary to maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios. Makes arrangements for substitute staffing as needed.
- Provides leadership in coordinating with the school’s administration, teachers, community partnerships, and/or branch team for successful program implementation.
- Works with Site Coordinator to evaluate the program quality, implementing necessary remedial steps when necessary.
- Manages communication between Site Coordinators and Membership/Facilities/Aquatics Directors when the program takes place at the branch or in shared spaces.
- Ensures Site Coordinators are providing careful supervision and guidance to Program Aides that are assigned to Group Leaders. Ensures Program Aides who are under 18 years of age are never left alone to supervise or monitor youth participants and are receiving proper supervision.
- Follows all procedures and standards as established by the law or the Y.
- Provides supervision, assistance, and guidance to staff.
- Conducts ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of children.
- Conducts ongoing, systematic observations, evaluations, training and coaching of staff.
- Serves as a positive role model, demonstrates professional behavior.
- Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions with others.
- Maintains on-going communication with supervisor and assigned staff, conducting regular and on-going meetings.
- Creates a positive rapport with youth, staff, parents/guardians, as well as other departments especially when programs are based on-site at the branch.
- Ensures Site Coordinators maintain accurate participant records as assigned and according to program requirements.
- Ensures Site Coordinators communicate regularly with parents; attends parent/family events as designated by the supervisor.
- Ensures proper food handling during snack/lunch preparation.
- Ensures clean up and preparation of room/program space for next day.
- Depending on the program, assists with diapering and toilet needs of children.
- Works with Site Coordinators to plan and implement special events such as family nights and program activities.
- Leads and attends required staff meetings, staff training, and other required events.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
- Works with Program Executive and program staff to ensure programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed
