**Background**
C40 is a network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities, who are working to deliver the urgent action needed right now to confront the climate crisis, and create a future where everyone, everywhere can thrive. Mayors of C40 cities are committed to using a science-based and people-focused approach to help the world limit global heating to 1.5°C and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities. Through a Global Green New Deal, mayors are working alongside a broad coalition of representatives from labour, business, the youth climate movement and civil society to go further and faster than ever before.
C40’s team of 300+ staff is headquartered in London, with offices in New York, Johannesburg, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen and Beijing, and individual staff based across 25+ different locations, with the Office of the Chair based in London.
The strategic direction of the organisation is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors which is chaired by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the C40 Board of Directors, which is responsible for operational oversight. A nine-person management team, led by Executive Director, Mark Watts, leads the day-to-day management of C40. C40’s three core strategic funders are Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and Realdania.
Our international staff work with the C40 network under the leadership of city governments to deliver this mission. Using a data-driven approach, our team identifies and promotes the exchange of proven programmes and policies developed by cities; provides world-class research, technical expertise and access to key partners to deliver new programmes and policies with cities; and communicates cities’ individual achievements and collective leadership.

**Inclusive Climate Action (ICA) team.**Climate change affects communities differently, some more severely than others. Equally, in addition to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate risk, investments in climate action have an array of benefits and, in some cases, negative impacts that can accrue unevenly and unfairly to different groups. Embedding inclusivity and equity in the design and implementation of climate actions helps to address these issues. It ensures that actions respond to social inequities and the needs of those who are most vulnerable, improves the effectiveness of climate policy and wins greater public support for your city’s climate agenda.
C40’s ICA team provides mayors and local administrations with support to plan, build consensus and deliver bold climate action that is equitable and beneficial for all. The ICA programme deals with the links between the climate crisis and social justice in cities. The ICA work aims at ensuring that climate solutions are designed considering issues of equity, access, and fairness and that throughout climate action implementation the voices of vulnerable social groups, frontline and marginalized communities within the city are heard and considered at its core.
**The UKAID Climate Action Implementation Programme**
The UKAID Climate Action Implementation programme will support 15 cities in 3 regions to implement their Climate Action Plans. The cities are Bogota, Guadalajara, Lima, Medellin and Mexico City in Latin America, Addis Ababa, Accra, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, Tshwane in Africa and Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Quezon City in Southeast Asia.
C40 has provided dedicated support to these cities through the recently concluded Climate Action Planning Program. The new C40 Business Plan focuses on the delivery and mainstreaming of transformative actions contained in cities climate action plans, facilitating a green and just recovery from COVID-19 and supporting and strengthening mayoral leadership.
