**Consultancy**:
**Assessment of the information in the RA/IDH Salary Matrix identification for Improvement areas**:
The Rainforest Alliance is creating a more sustainable world by using market and social forces to protect nature and improve the lives of farmers and forest communities. The Sustainable Agriculture Standard, along with its assurance systems and technology, is designed to deliver more value to the two million farmers and thousands of businesses that use Rainforest Alliance certification to drive more sustainable agricultural production and responsible supply chains.

**1.** **SCOPE**:
Be able to address some of the known systemic issues (such as wage systems, overtime inclusion, piece rate systems) evidenced as an underestimated barrier to the work on living wage.

Document similarities and differences within and between countries of the payroll systems to inform salary matrix data collection that enables ease of verification. At the same time, with the knowledge that this verification will be of data that is more robust and comes with greater levels of trust.

The way and the extent of the tasks of the contractor included the assessment of Time
- and Wage-Monitoring-Systems on Banana Farms and Mapping against Salary Matrix Recommendations for Improvement.

**2.** **OBJECTIVES OF THE CONSULTANCY**:
2.1 Conduct an assessment of existing time and wage monitoring / payroll systems in banana farms in Colombia, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

2.2 Analyze the compatibility of the data collected on the farms and the data requirements of the Salary Matrix / the Anker Methodology.

2.3 Based on these findings, conduct a desktop study, and examine on-site good/best practice examples of payroll systems with a

particular focus on a balance between facilitating the collection.

2.4 Compile recommendations in a written document for farms on how data collection and payroll systems can be improved to meet the

abovementioned balance and for other stakeholders working in the field, on how to contribute to supporting farms.

2.5 Present and discuss the results and recommendations in a virtual multi-stakeholder workshop organized by GIZ or partners.

**3.** **LOCATION OF THE WORKING GROUP**:
Banana Certificate Holders.

**4.** **MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE CONSULTANT.**:
The selected consultant or consulting firm will work under the coordinated direction of SA South America and will be responsible for:
1. Conduct an assessment of payroll management systems used in banana farms in Colombia, Costa Rica and Ecuador.

2. Verify the wages paid to workers, frequency of payments, tracking of hours worked, worker productivity in piece rate systems, and other

benefits.

3. Investigate the compatibility of existing systems and local legislation for the estimation of a living wage gap as per the Anker methodology

and labor cost forecasting.

4. Establish to what extent the necessary information is available at the farm level; if captured, to what extent are the established methods

conducive to the presentation of this information in the way that is invited by the salary matrix

5. Establish the gaps; and determine how data collection can be adapted to better suit the information available on farms.

6. Provide a report as a summary of findings from assessments of farms and recommendations of practices to be made available to others.

**5.** **CONSULTANT PROFILE**:
The consultant or consulting firm must cover at least the following criteria in order to be eligible to execute the consultancy:

- Have studies and/or experience in agronomy, biology, ecology, natural resource management, and/or related fields.
- Experience in the development of methodological frameworks, a proposal must be included as part of the technical proposal.
- Experience in the establishment and management of field experiments, data collection, and analysis, as well as in the strengthening of good agricultural practices.
- Knowledge and management of research and analysis methodologies on the current situation of living wage in the country.
- Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative information, whether obtained through testimonies, documentary, or visual review.
- It is desirable that the consultant be able to communicate verbally and in writing in Spanish and English.

**6.** **DURATION OF THE CONSULTANCY**:
Estimated start date is September 1st, 2023 and ends on February 29, 2024.

**7.** **DELIVERABLES AND REPORTING PLAN**:
RA will not consider proposals over USD9,000 including fees, taxes and all related expenses. Payments will be upon delivery to the satisfaction of Rainforest Alliance Colombia of the products indicated in the following table:
