**WANTED: BACKEND ENGINEER FOR INNOVATIVE CAT CARE START-UP FROM SWITZERLAND**

At Flappie Technologies, we are revolutionizing the paradigm of cat-human companionship. Our cutting-edge Al-powered cat door is a game changer that curbs the feline instinct to surprise their humans with unexpected "gifts". Whenever a cat tries to bring home prey, Flappie will lock the flap - hence giving cat owners peace of mind as well as a tranquil home.

Based in the heart of Zurich, our award-winning start-up has been covered by 100+ international media publications and has been named as “one of the TOP AI innovations” at this year’s CES (the world’s largest tech trade show) in Las Vegas. As we approach launch, the focus is on creating an amazing product that resonates, engages and ignites our audiences.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Develop Robust Backend Systems**:Create and maintain server-side logic to ensure efficient operation of the Flappie cat door system. This includes developing APIs and services for functionality such as user registration, device management, and data synchronization.

**Database Management and Optimization**:Design, implement, and maintain database systems. Ensure optimal performance for handling high volumes of data, including multimedia files like videos and images from the cat door's camera.

**Cloud Services Management**:Manage cloud-based infrastructure and services, primarily focusing on AWS. This includes setting up, scaling, and securing cloud resources.

**Real-time Communication**:Develop and maintain a WebSocket server for real-time communication between the cat door, mobile app, and backend system, ensuring low latency and high reliability.

**System Scalability and Reliability**:Design the backend architecture for scalability to support an increasing number of users and devices. Implement strategies for high availability, disaster recovery, and efficient load balancing.

**Security Implementation**:Ensure the security of the backend systems, protecting against unauthorized access and safeguarding user data, especially considering the IoT nature of the product.

**Monitoring and Maintenance**:Continuously monitor system performance, conduct regular system audits, and implement improvements and optimizations.

9. **Documentation and Best Practices**:Create comprehensive documentation for the backend systems and contribute to the development of best practices within the team.

10. **Troubleshooting and Problem Solving**:Proactively identify and address system issues and inefficiencies. Provide technical support and problem-solving solutions in collaboration with other team members.

11. **Keep Up-to-date with Emerging Technologies**:Stay informed about the latest trends in backend development, cloud services, and IoT technologies, and assess their applicability to continuously improve the Flappie system.

**Requirements**:

- Proven experience as a Backend Developer or similar role (3+ years preferred).
- Strong understanding of Node.js, Python, or similar server-side languages.
- Experience with cloud services (AWS preferred) and managing serverless architectures.
- Proficiency in database technology (SQL and NoSQL databases).
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (like JavaScript and HTML5) and UI/UX design.
- Strong knowledge of code versioning tools, such as Git.
- Experience with WebSocket technology for real-time communication.
- Problem-solving attitude and excellent analytical skills.
- Self-motivated Team Player with excellent communication skills, fluency in English (writtenand verbal).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Must love cats

**Nice to Have**:

- Experience in IoT or embedded systems.
- Understanding of AI/machine learning concepts.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
