Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

**Main purpose of job**:
Lead the Inward Investment Team at the Department for International Trade in Colombia, with a watching brief for the wider Andean region. You will work mainly with Colombian companies, organisations and high net worth individuals to deliver an increase in their awareness of the UK as an investment destination and to drive new foreign direct investment from Colombia to the UK. You will work hand in hand with the embassy commercial team colleagues and embassies in the wide Latin & Caribbean region to identify leads and develop opportunities. This will include developing excellent relationships with UK HQ colleagues and with UK based partner organisations to support your team in delivering an impactful programme of activities focused on developing a robust pipeline of investors and to promote the UK as a destination for Latin American companies.

**Roles and responsibilities**

***Lead the Inward Investment agenda in Colombia and wider Andean region
- Drive our investment agenda in Colombia, developing and delivering a strategy for attracting high quality FDI from Colombia to the UK. Support existing clients in the pipeline beyond Colombia, maintaining a watching brief for new interest from the Andean region.
- Assist companies and entrepreneurs to successfully locate and expand operations in the UK;
- Develop venture capitalist investment from individual and corporate clients.
- Build a strong pipeline of investment projects from key sectors specially aligned with the concept of high economic impact investment;
- Conduct activities to raise the profile of the UK as a FDI location for Colombian companies; aligned with UK’s GREAT Campaign
- Offer high value projects advisory and account management for a number of strategic investment projects from Colombia to the UK, both from the private sector and high net worth individuals.
- Develop institutional relationships with Colombian stakeholders, including industry federations, sector associations and government, related to inward investment;
- Maintain a watching brief for inward investment opportunities from Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, while managing existing pipeline clients;
- Execute and improve Colombian aftercare strategy for account managing existing investors from Colombia the region in the United Kingdom, focusing on expansions and retention of investment;
- Support the senior management team (regular information sharing and reports as requested by HMA, Country Director, HQ Global operations, ministerial visits, briefings, performance reports, etc)
- Manage budget to ensure value for money and on-time spend.
- Weekly calls with the Regional Investment Manager on processes and pipeline development updates and supporting with quarterly performance review to the HQ and DIT Director LatAm;
Manage the team in line with DIT and Local Embassy values, contributing to the overall Embassy corporate objectives and ensure good financial, project and procurement management.
- Effective line management of 1 Investment Officer and 1 intern, through SMART objectives, uptake of L&D opportunities and high quality appraisals
- Ensure good financial, project and procurement management of work in the team.
- Actively engage in the wider Embassy activities, participate in committees and events.

Any other task that might be required as part of the team’s activities.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

- 7 years' work experience
- Experience in project management, team leadership, budget control, commercial activities and account management;
- Stakeholder engagement;
- Detailed knowledge of Colombian business sectors and outward investment trends
- Line management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Trade and/or Investment experience
- Must have the legal status to live and work in Colombia.

**Language requirements**:
Language: English and Spanish

Level of language required: At least CEFR C1 or equivalent, written and spoken.

- Knowledge of UK business ecosystem
- Existing network of high-level investors in Colombia
