National Wire, a family-owned welded wire manufacturing business since 1995, proudly stands as one of the largest in the southern United States. We are dedicated to surpassing customer expectations in both quality and service.
We are currently seeking a proactive Purchasing Assistant to join our team as an independent contractor. This role will support our purchasing clerk by acting as a secondary point of contact for new and current vendors. The Purchasing Assistant will be responsible for researching new vendors, tracking deliveries, and updating our internal databases with order details, such as dates, vendors, quantities, and discounts. This role is crucial for maintaining smooth operations and ensuring timely deliveries in our manufacturing environment.
**Responsibilities**:
- Purchase goods and services according to the company’s policies and procedures.
- Evaluate vendors based on price, reliability, capability, and previous transaction history.
- Ensure that purchasing documents are complete and accurate and include appropriate and reasonable terms and conditions.
- Maintain pricing histories and other vendor records.
- Work with the purchasing clerk to manage the purchasing department.
- Oversee and manage purchase orders, shipping schedules, and purchase records.
- Track orders and ensure timely delivery.
- Liaise with the warehouse team to ensure all products arrive in good condition.
- Assist in monitoring stock levels and identifying purchasing needs.
- Initiate vendor claims as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
**Required Skills/Abilities**:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Bilingual: English - Spanish (required).
**Experience**:
At least two years of purchasing experience.
