Main purpose of job:

Provide administrative support to the Foreign Direct Investment Director, Business Development Manager and/or (a) Commercial Officer(s) at the Department for Business & Trade (DBT) office in Colombia, including, but not limited to business development, research and analysis of data and strategic and logistical support to different events and daily tasks inside the team.


Roles and responsibilities:

Research: help in the formulation of market studies for British or Colombian companies and the online management of customers; maintenance of the team’s project database, and assistance in the identification of new opportunities for Colombian businesses in the UK. Event coordination: support to the organisation of official events and visits, including the preparation of agendas, arrangement of meetings and all related logistic activities. Relations with stakeholders: develop and maintain contact with local (private and public) stakeholders, keeping record of all activities in the team’s databases. Provide cross-cutting support to the DBT team (and other Embassy sections if needed) as required and perform other tasks as requested by the Investment Director, Business Development Manager or other heads of the DBT team. Essential qualifications, skills and experience 1 Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate studies in International Business, Marketing, Finance, International Relations, Business Management, Economics, Industrial Engineering or similar degrees in a Colombian university. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered. Availability of at least 6 months before their graduation date, in order to complete the internship. Availability to start their internship in the proposed date (We are currently recruiting several interns at the Department for Business & Trade. Successful candidates will start the role in May / June 2024). Bilingual: spoken and written Spanish and English. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Strong research skills, ability to write reports, summarise/analyse information, and maintain databases. Ability to manage one’s own time and work under deadlines. Ability to carry out administrative and logistical tasks. Creative and adaptable mindset, with commercial and/or marketing savvy. Legal status to live and work in Colombia in your own right, from time of application. Desirable qualifications, skills and experience 1 Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in project/event management and delivery. Experience working in teams. Interest and wider knowledge in business internationalization and growth into international markets. The successful candidate will have access to some internal training and job shadowing, as well as the opportunity (depending on interest and availability) to work on cross-embassy teams or projects. 


Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

If during the reserve period of 6-12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
