Summary:
The Medical Coder will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing medical records to assign appropriate codes for diagnosis, procedures, and treatments in compliance with coding and billing regulations. The Medical Coder will ensure accurate coding to facilitate the timely billing and reimbursement of healthcare claims.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review medical records to identify diagnoses, procedures, and treatments
  • Assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes to ensure proper billing and reimbursement
  • Ensure compliance with coding and billing regulations and guidelines
  • Communicate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding questions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and changes
  • Review denied claims and submit appeals as necessary
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and initiatives
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations
  • Meet productivity and accuracy standards set by the company

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Associate (CCA) from an accredited organization
  • At least 2 years of experience in medical coding
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and guidelines
  • Understanding of healthcare billing and reimbursement processes
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in using coding software and electronic health records (EHRs)
