About the Role

Core responsibilities of the Reinsurance Contracts Counsel are:

Independently draft and critique reinsurance contracts, binders, slips, endorsements and related documents to align written agreements with business intent and corporate requirements. Align reinsurance contracts with applicable law, regulations and internal requirements. Coordinate, communicate and participate in development of corporate policies on contract related matters. Maintain strong governance risk and control standards with respect to contract wordings and processes. Collaborate with Client Managers and Underwriters in contract negotiations, including discussions with external clients and brokers.  Act as expert technical advisor, providing guidance to various corporate functions regarding contract interpretation, implications of contract language and best practices for routine as well as complex matters for all property and casualty lines of business across Latin America (Mexico, Central America, Andean Region and South America). Develop training materials and deliver training on contract related matters.

The Reinsurance Contracts Counsel will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of relevant law, regulations and market practices in the Latin America region and apply these to reinsurance agreements. They will also require strong analytical abilities, experience in business negotiations, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage confidently and in an impactful manner with internal stakeholders and clients. We are seeking a candidate with an innovative, pragmatic and results-oriented mindset, who possesses the ability to work independently with a sense of personal responsibility and accountability, while also building cooperative relationships with internal and external partners. 

About You:

Requirements for the Reinsurance Contracts Counsel (Latin America) position include:

Law degree or equivalent legal experience with reinsurance or insurance agreements; Five or more years of (re)insurance industry experience in an attorney, contract/policy specialist, underwriting, marketing or claims handling role; Solid understanding of P&C products and the Latin America (re)insurance market; and High level fluency in Spanish and English, including business terminology. Additional fluency in Portuguese is a plus.
