About MAVI MAVI places experienced finance and accounting professionals into senior, high-ownership roles at high-growth US companies. We maintain a deliberately high bar on both sides of the placement. The companies we partner with are venture-backed and private equity-backed businesses building modern finance organizations, and the professionals we represent are operators with a track record of owning the numbers rather than supporting them from a distance. Our team has built and scaled finance functions at companies including Lyft, Ramp, and SoftBank. We remain closely involved throughout the relationship, from role alignment and interview preparation through onboarding, placement, and long-term career development. The Role We are seeking an experienced Head of Accounting to own the accounting function end to end for US-based client companies, working remotely from Colombia. This is the most senior accounting seat in the business, and it remains substantively hands-on. You will be accountable for the accuracy of the financial statements, the discipline of the close, the strength of the control environment, and the readiness of the company for its audit — and for the function that produces all four. Where a client has outgrown the processes that carried it this far — a close held together by one person's memory, a revenue schedule maintained outside the ledger, a reconciliation that has not been cleared in three quarters — you will be the person who rebuilds them. You will work directly with founders, CEOs, and the leadership teams whose decisions depend on your numbers. A significant part of the role is translating accounting information into something people outside finance can act on, and doing so before they ask for it. Because you will be the most senior accounting person in the company and located outside the United States, the role calls for someone who operates well with autonomy, communicates proactively rather than on request, and holds both the technical detail and the operating picture without a layer above them to catch what falls through. What You'll Own The Close and Financial Reporting The close. Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, with full accountability for the calendar, the quality of the output, and the cycle time. The financial statements. Own the preparation of the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement under US GAAP, and stand behind those numbers in front of leadership and auditors. Revenue. Own revenue recognition under ASC 606, including the schedules, the deferred revenue roll-forward, and the judgements behind them. Consolidation. Own multi-entity accounting, intercompany balances, eliminations, and foreign currency translation. Reporting packages. Prepare the monthly and quarterly reporting packages and variance analysis that leadership and investors rely on. Controls, Policy, and Audit Policies and controls. Establish and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, approval workflows, and reporting standards appropriate to the company's stage, and enforce them once established. Documentation. Build and maintain the close checklist, process narratives, and standard operating procedures that allow the function to run without depending on any single individual. Audit. Own the annual audit or review end to end, including auditor management, PBC preparation, and resolution of findings through to close-out. External partners. Manage external auditors, US tax advisers, and outsourced bookkeeping partners against agreed standards and deadlines. Accounting Operations and Team The transactional cycle. Own the general ledger, AP, AR, payroll accounting, and expense processing, holding each to defined turnaround and accuracy standards. Reconciliations. Own the balance sheet reconciliation process and the resolution of ageing items, rather than the reporting of them. Cash reporting. Prepare accurate cash reporting and the rolling cash forecast. The accounting team. Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting staff and bookkeepers working beneath you, and shape how the team is structured and resourced as the company scales. The function itself. Decide how accounting gets done — where work sits, what is kept in house against what is outsourced, and what the function needs to look like at the next stage rather than this one. Finance systems. Lead ERP selection, implementation, and migration across NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, and comparable platforms. What We're Looking For 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct leadership and development of accounting staff Experience operating as a Head of Accounting, Chief Accountant, Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Director Demonstrated ownership of the close and the financial statements on an independent basis, rather than contribution to someone else's Strong command of US GAAP, with genuine depth in revenue recognition (ASC 606); leases (ASC 842) and stock-based compensation (ASC 718) are an advantage Experience owning an audit or review, including direct management of external auditors through to resolution of findings Experience with multi-entity accounting, consolidation, and intercompany elimination A track record of designing accounting processes and controls from the ground up, or of rebuilding underperforming ones Substantial ERP experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or a comparable platform, alongside familiarity with modern finance tooling such as Ramp, Brex, Bill.com, or Rippling Experience working remotely with US-based leadership, auditors, and CPA firms, with the communication discipline that arrangement requires Excellent written and verbal English, with the confidence to hold the room in a leadership or audit setting Contador Público with Tarjeta Profesional, CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred Big 4 or comparable public accounting experience followed by industry experience preferred Experience at a venture-backed or PE-backed US company, particularly from Seed through Series C, preferred Experience building or scaling an accounting function and the team behind it is highly regarded SaaS or recurring-revenue experience, including deferred revenue and the mechanics of ARR, is a significant advantage Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Who This Role Is For This role is well suited to an accounting leader who wants to own a function outright rather than administer one part of it. You are technically strong enough to reach a defensible conclusion without escalating it, and operationally strong enough to make sure the process behind it holds up next quarter. You set the standard for how accounting is done and build the discipline the company needs at each stage instead of waiting for it to be handed to you, and you are equally credible in a room with a CEO, an auditor, and a junior accountant. Above all, you identify issues early, communicate them clearly to the people who need to know, and arrive with a practical recommendation rather than only a number. Why Join Through MAVI Own an entire accounting function, end to end, with direct exposure to US founders and senior leadership Build the accounting infrastructure of a growing company rather than maintaining someone else's Work to US GAAP with US auditors and US systems, on the standard that opens international opportunities Own audits, ERP transformations, and control build-outs rather than supporting them Progress toward Head of Finance and Fractional CFO opportunities through MAVI Work remotely from Colombia in full overlap with the US business day Compensation in USD Work Arrangement This is a fully remote role based in Colombia.
