Control Panel Estimator

Position Summary Koester Corporation is seeking a Control Panel Estimator to provide technical estimating support to the Sales Department for industrial controls projects. This position primarily reviews customer drawings, electrical schematics, Bills of Material (BOMs), and specifications; determines material requirements and costs; researches vendor pricing; and provides completed material estimates to Account Managers. When estimating workload permits, the position will also provide technical support to Purchasing and assist with project handoffs as needed. Primary Responsibilities Estimating / Sales Support
• Review customer electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, and Bills of Material.
• Determine material requirements for control panels and industrial control systems.
• Request and review vendor quotations for pricing, availability, and lead times.
• Develop accurate material estimates
• Provide recommended labor hours for panel wiring and assembly when sufficient information is available.
• Identify long-lead, high-cost, or unusual components that may affect a quotation.
• Research historical Koester jobs to compare components, vendors, costs, labor hours, selling prices, and previous estimating or production issues.
• Work with K-Phase technical or engineering personnel when additional technical information is needed. Purchasing Support
• Provide technical support to Purchasing.
• Research component pricing, availability, and potential substitutes.
• Assist with technical purchasing questions related to control-panel components.
• Create BOMs when needed.
• Provide technical information needed to support purchasing decisions. Project Management Support
• Participate in project kickoff meetings as needed.
• Help review material requirements and identify unusual or critical components.
• Help identify long-lead materials, estimating assumptions, exclusions, or changes from the original quotation.
• Help resolve discrepancies between the quotation, drawings, and BOM when requested Required Qualifications
• Practical experience in industrial controls, electrical manufacturing, control-panel building, or a related technical field.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• Working knowledge of industrial control components, including:
• PLCs
• HMIs
• VFDs
• Relays and contactors
• Power supplies
• Circuit breakers and fuses
• Terminal blocks
• Sensors
• Network and communication components
• Control transformers
• Electrical enclosures
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer applications.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to independently manage multiple assigned estimating tasks.
• Ability to recognize when additional technical information or direction is needed. Preferred Qualifications
• 5+ years of industrial control-panel wiring or control-building experience.
• Experience with industrial controls or automation.
• Experience working with electrical BOMs.
• Experience estimating material or labor for control panels.
