Software Engineer II, Back End (Kotlin / Java)
About the client
Our client is a leading global cybersecurity company that delivers innovative solutions to protect businesses and individuals from evolving threats. Its mission is to give organizations secure, scalable technology that stays resilient against cyber challenges.
About the role
We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join the product development team behind the client's Insider Risk Management product. You will own critical backend services that process billions of events from customers around the world, designing and delivering new services and APIs, evolving existing systems on AWS, and taking end-to-end ownership of the quality, operability and reliability of the code you ship. This is a mid-level role for engineers who can work independently on moderately complex problems, make sound technical trade-offs and raise the quality of the team around them, by mentoring others, improving how the team builds and taking responsibility for production outcomes. This is an AI-first engineering organization: teams use AI-powered tools across coding, testing, documentation and operations, and look for engineers who champion their adoption and help establish new ways of working.
What you'll do
• Own the design and implementation of features and services, with monitoring, supportability, testability and operational health built in from the start.
• Turn ambiguous product requirements into cohesive technical designs, identify gaps and trade-offs, and drive them to completion.
• Write unit, integration and service-level tests that give the team confidence to ship, and raise the quality bar in review.
• Debug and troubleshoot across the stack, including production systems under load.
• Write infrastructure as code and own the deployment, configuration and lifecycle of your team's services.
• Own production issues and escalated customer questions, drive incidents to resolution and follow through on durable fixes, including the on-call rotation.
• Write design documents and technical proposals, and review others' code and designs for correctness, simplicity and maintainability.
• Mentor teammates through pairing, thoughtful code review and sharing context.
• Demo progress and communicate status, risks and options clearly.
• Help the team sequence work so it can be delivered incrementally.
• Identify and drive process and technical improvements for how the team builds and runs software.
• Lead design discussions and code reviews: ask hard questions, offer alternatives and accept feedback.
• Work across product development, often as the primary engineering partner on a feature. Tech environment Kotlin
• Java
• Microservices
• AWS
• Infrastructure as code
• PostgreSQL
• Elasticsearch
• CI/CD
• AI-assisted development tools Why join
• Accelerate your career working on cutting-edge technology with real customer impact.
• Own services that process billions of events at global scale.
• Formal and on-the-job learning in cross-functional teams. Requirements Strong candidates will have experience across many of these areas, without necessarily checking every box. Required
• 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience, focused on backend development.
• Production experience with Kotlin (the team's primary language) or Java.
• Experience designing and building object-oriented systems, microservices or multi-tier architectures.
• Experience with testing frameworks and the habit of using tests as part of how you design software.
• Discipline delivering features that matter in production: observability, failure modes and operational follow-through.
• Hands-on experience shipping and iterating services in a CI/CD pipeline.
• Experience with data stores such as PostgreSQL or Elasticsearch, and an understanding of how data models and queries affect reliability and performance.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS, and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with Agile or lean development processes.
• Comfortable owning deliverables through supportability, documentation and operational readiness.
• Comfortable giving and receiving direct feedback, and translating between product intent and technical reality.
• Able to explain technical ideas, trade-offs and recommendations clearly in English, in writing and verbally. Benefits
• Permanent contract (contrato a término indefinido) with all legal benefits
• Competitive salary
• Comprehensive benefits package that supports a healthy lifestyle for employees and their families
• Formal and on-the-job learning in cross-functional teams
• On-site role in Medellin with Parking
