Mid+ Data Engineer

This role combines database development, data validation, and reporting to drive better decisions and system performance. • Design and develop data models, transformations, and interfaces (ETL/ELT) using Microsoft SQL Server and SSIS.
• Lead and support Azure cloud migration initiatives, including migrating SQL Server databases, SSIS, and SSAS solutions to Azure (Azure VM, Managed Instance, and Azure Data Factory).
• Participate in database modernization and optimization projects within Azure environments.
• Manage data flows between systems, including file-based and API integrations.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and reports in Microsoft Power BI.
• Write and maintain stored procedures and SQL queries to support reporting and integration.
• Ensure database security, efficiency, reliability, and compliance.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to improve backend data integrations and contribute to the automation of manual data processes.
• Design internal reports and dashboards used by client operations and leadership teams.
• Create documentation for logic flows, tables, and scripts to support future maintenance and onboarding.
• Support business and systems reporting, helping the organization make data-informed
• Act as a point of contact for operations data needs, helping non-technical stakeholders translate business questions into data requests.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or 5+ years of progressive IT experience.
• 3+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL database development and/or analysis.

• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, SSIS, and T-SQL (queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning).

• Proven experience in Azure cloud environments, including:

• Azure VM and Azure SQL Managed Instance setup and maintenance.

• Azure Data Factory for orchestrating and automating data pipelines.
• Migration of SSIS, SSAS, and SQL Server databases to Azure cloud platforms.

• Cloud migration and Database modernization and optimization projects involving data infrastructure.

• Strong experience with REST and SOAP APIs, including JSON and XML.

• Experience with system integrations and working with legacy systems is required

Good to Have:

• Experience with Microsoft SSAS for BI reporting and maintenance.
• Understanding of OLTP and OLAP systems and data modeling.
• Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA).
• Industry experience in logistics or student transportation is a plus.
