Senior Design System Designer

About the Role

Affirm is seeking an experienced Senior Design System Designer to join their global design organization. The Design Systems team drives quality, consistency, and efficiency across all Affirm products and touchpoints, including mobile apps, web platforms, and brand communications.

This is a high-priority, contract-based role that will play a key part in Affirm's FY26 visual identity rollout, building and maintaining the design infrastructure that powers a world-class product experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Component & Token Design
  • Build and refine reusable Figma components for Affirm's mobile and web design libraries.
  • Translate Affirm's evolving visual identity—color, typography, motion, spacing—into scalable, production-ready design tokens.
  • Maintain design consistency and accuracy across multiple product surfaces.
  • Documentation & Collaboration
  • Create and update detailed component documentation, usage guidelines, and examples in Figma and Notion.
  • Partner with engineers to validate parity between design and code.
  • Contribute to QA and governance to uphold design system standards.
  • Cross-Functional Support
  • Work closely with feature design teams on app redesigns, web migrations, and localization projects.
  • Identify component gaps or inconsistencies during rollout and propose scalable solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews and audits, addressing quality and accessibility issues.
  • Accessibility & Quality Assurance
  • Apply WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards to all design system updates.
  • Conduct testing and audits to ensure implementation fidelity.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering peers to ensure accessibility compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of product design experience, including at least 1–2 years in design systems or design infrastructure.
  • Expert-level Figma proficiency (components, variants, tokens, libraries).
  • Proven experience designing for React or React Native environments.
  • Strong understanding of design-to-development workflows and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Attention to visual detail and interaction quality.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1+ accessibility guidelines.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Tokens Studio, Zeroheight, or Storybook.
  • Prior work in large, complex product ecosystems.
  • Interest in AI-assisted design tools such as Figma Make, ChatGPT, or Claude.
  • Familiarity with motion, localization, or theming systems.

Soft Skills

  • Collaborative and open communicator who thrives in cross-functional environments.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Curious and eager to learn from senior designers and engineers.
  • Reliable and capable of delivering production-quality work independently.
