 The Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) team delivers a secure, self-service, and cost-effective platform for SQL Server, MariaDB, and Oracle. We manage the full database lifecycle—from automation and security to operations—in a critical, highly available environment. To ensure this, the team operates 24x7 in a "follow-the-sun" model with members in Bogotá and the USA. 

Summary of the role:  

The Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) Database Administrator will assist the database operations team in the implementation, configuration, security, maintenance, and performance tuning/monitoring of the Amadeus database tier as assigned.

The focus of this role is to ensure the availability and performance of existing and future enterprise applications, through the use of MSSQL database technology.

You will partner closely with cross-functional teams that include Development, Product and Architecture, to ensure delivery of our applications at the highest level of quality and performance. 

In this role you'll:  

• Plan, document, allocate, install, and configure database servers (with appropriate patch level and within current security standards), with a strong emphasis on high availability, fault tolerance and disaster recovery – including multi-site high-availability as .
• Plan, create, implement, monitor, and maintain backup solutions via automation, as well as perform backup / restore validation tasks.
• Design, build, maintain database monitoring solutions for 100's of databases, several of which are in the multiple terabyte range across data platforms.
• Manage databases through phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), from development to critical Production systems.
• Manage and create standards, procedures, and policies for governing database environments.
• Provide escalation support, troubleshooting and resolution assistance, as well as performance tuning for the platform and operational database teams.  

About the ideal candidate:  

• 5+ years managing Microsoft SQL Server database technologies, such as MSSQL 2016 – 2022, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)/Azure Data Factory (ADF), and other Azure related database technologies in a critical, highly available enterprise operation.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in abstract situations.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex database engine performance or technical issues.
• Ability to plan and execute tasks related to maintenance, upgrades, failovers and other database system sustaining activities, as .
• Proficiency in scripting languages and / or automation techniques.
• Demonstratable knowledge on database tuning tools.
• Knowledge of OS (Windows) and storage technologies.
• Understanding of capacity management concepts and techniques.
• Experience with Agile methodologies (e.g. SCRUM, Kanban, SAFe).
• Experience working with Azure or other cloud providers is a plus.
• Experience working with another datastore technology such as MySQL / MariaDB, Oracle (19c onwards), PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Couchbase is a plus.
• Fluent in English and Spanish required
