Bogota, Colombia Center for Reproductive Rights A tiempo completo

**Job Title**:Marshall Weinberg Global Legal Fellow, Latin America & the Caribbean

**Department**:Programs

**Center Background**: The Center for Reproductive Rights (the Center) is a global human rights organization working to ensure that reproductive rights are protected in law as fundamental human rights around the world. With offices in New York City, New York; Nairobi, Kenya; Bogota, Colombia; Geneva, Switzerland; and Washington, D.C., the Center is a non-profit, non-partisan organization changing law and policy throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the United States. Our 230+ diverse professionals are committed to advancing the Center's human rights mission through game-changing litigation, legal policy, and advocacy work. This has powered the Center's exceptional growth to an operating budget of over $40 million and won the respect of law firms in countries around the world, with an additional $29 million annually of donated legal services, representing the work of countless lawyers from more than 46 countries.

The Center's Strategic Plan sets a high mark for impact**:_By 2030, half of the world's population will be living under stronger protections for reproductive rights than they are today._** **The Center has a track record of success to back up this ambitious goal. Since our founding in 1992, the Center has transformed how reproductive rights are understood and applied by courts, governments, and human rights bodies worldwide on issues including maternal health, abortion, assisted reproduction, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We have won groundbreaking cases before national courts, U.N. Committees, and regional human rights bodies. Additionally, the Center has led the development of historic, proactive legislation advancing robust protections for reproductive rights and has built the legal capacity of women's rights advocates in more than 65 countries and counting.

**About the Fellowship**:
The Center has received a generous gift from Marshall Weinberg to support our work to ensure that more women and girls in the global south have access to safe and legal abortion, quality maternal health care, a full range of reproductive health services and information, and reproductive autonomy.

The **Marshall Weinberg Global Legal Fellowship Program** will help prepare the next generation of social justice lawyers in reproductive health and rights with two-year fellowships within the Center's Global Legal Program. These emerging advocates will work directly with our legal experts and will take on work in areas of the greatest need, opportunity, and impact within our Africa and Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC) programs.

**The Role**:
We are currently recruiting two **Marshall Weinberg Global Legal Fellows** for LAC.

The **Marshall Weinberg Global Fellows, LAC** will work under the supervision of the Legal Advisor for LAC and will collaborate closely with other LAC program staff to support and build the work of the regional program in all areas of work.

This position will be based in Bogotá, Colombia.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Conduct legal and policy research and analysis on international law, human rights law, and foreign and comparative law, especially laws in LAC that impact women's reproductive rights in the region.
- Support the LAC Program's litigation strategy by developing factual records and drafting legal memoranda, pleadings and amicus briefs-including conducting fact-checking and citation work

- Support the LAC Program's strategy on the implementation of decisions and friendly settlements. Support the research and drafting of publications and other materials to advance the LAC Program's work and help coordinate the production of LAC Program publications.
- Support the Legal staff for LAC in providing technical assistance to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders, as well as in preparing presentations for conferences and meetings.
- Participate in and draft submissions to UN and regional human rights bodies, including the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Inter American Court of Human Rights, and UN treaty monitoring bodies and special procedures.
- Represent the Center externally on matters related to reproductive rights through public speaking, and as required, engagement with the media.
- Support operational activities of the LAC Program as needed, including maintaining filing systems, maintaining relationships with NGO partners in the region, assisting with organizing program-related events and meetings, and assisting with the development of internal procedures for print and electronic media;
- Institutional responsibilities such as Monthly update, M&E, lobbying, press mentions.
- Regional travel is required.
- Other duties as assigned.
