The Technologies team is focused on the commercialization and delivery of technologies across all three of Hatch’s sectors: Metals, Energy, Infrastructure. We’re a team of innovators and problem solvers who deliver custom and specialized engineering to deliver novel solutions and technologies.

In addition to developing new technologies and selecting and installing equipment in greenfield projects, we help our clients to get the most from their existing assets by providing field support, rebuild repairs, and retrofits. We also work with our clients to optimize their existing technologies to achieve the maximum benefit.

Reporting to the Director of Engineered Equipment and Project Managers as appropriate, you will support projects globally based out of our Medellin, Colombia location.

The Role (includes but is not limited to):

- Perform detailed design of custom mechanical systems and proprietary Hatch equipment
- Ideation and conceptual layout of a broad spectrum of machines and systems
- 3D model preparation as well as drawing production using 3D CAD packages such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor (and review and checking thereof)
- Collaborate with process, structural and control system engineers, and designers in the detailed design of custom equipment, including equipment design reviews, design development and process hazard review studies
- Assist the Engineering Manager/Project Manager with the delivery of proposal or project requirements as they relate to scope, cost, and schedule
- Evaluate equipment/technology selection trade-off studies, including evaluation of suitable materials of construction, constructability assessments, vendor/fabrication shop sourcing.
- Prepare or contribute to technical project deliverables potentially including equipment specification packages, datasheets, reports, presentations, cost estimates, design basis, mechanical design criteria, operating philosophy, operations and maintenance manual, and proposals
- Provide site support, including field verification during construction and vendor fabrication assistance
- Mentor, oversee and review the work of other less experienced engineers and designers
- Carry out assigned tasks within budget and on schedule

About you:

- Mechanical Degree from a recognized University, with 5+ years working experience
- Fully fluent in Spanish and can communicate technical information clearly in English (additional languages are further beneficial)
- Proven working knowledge of 3D data centric design systems and associated deliverables (3D parametric modeling, live-views fabrication and assembly drawings, etc.)
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions
- Experienced in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
- Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to the mechanical engineering discipline
- Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate mechanical activities between disciplines
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A large breadth and depth of practical experience
- Demonstrated critical, logical, creative thinking and problem solving, and can contribute to solutions to our clients' toughest challenges
- Adept at working with, mentoring, and potentially managing junior designers and/or engineers
