Patent Specialist & Head of Patents

About the Company:

IGC Pharma SAS is based in Bogota and is a subsidiary of an NYSE-listed U.S. start-up clinical-stage pharmaceutical company that focuses on preventing and managing Alzheimer’s and other CNS diseases.

We are seeking a Senior Patent Specialist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing and expanding our company's global patent portfolio. This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong legal and scientific patent background, extensive patent law knowledge, and exceptional leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead the filing and prosecution of the company’s patent portfolio.
  2. Defend patent applications in several countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
  3. Help implement and optimize a database to document all the company’s patents.
  4. Train and update junior members of the team on current patent practice.
  5. Conduct background searches for new patents and assist in writing new patent applications.

Required Training
  1. Attorney at Law, Specialist in Patent Law and Scientific Law
  2. Lawyer bachelor's degree or degrees in chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacy, biochemistry, or related fields with in-depth knowledge of patent and intellectual property laws. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. At least three years of working experience as a patent attorney, patent advisor, or assessor.
  4. Knowledge in patent law and patent practice, ideally with experience in filing and prosecuting patent applications in the USA, EU, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, India, and Japan.
  5. Experience in prosecuting patent applications in the pharmaceutical field; optional knowledge of computer-based inventions and artificial intelligence; knowledge of the European Unitary Patent is a plus.
  6. Some knowledge in trademark law.
  7. Second language: English, B1 level or above.
