Purpose

Data Engineers are responsible for the development of ETL jobs that provide/process information to/from businesses within the Bank and its partners. They are experts in Azure Data Factory and have in-depth knowledge of cloud solutioning and data lineage technologies. Strong skills in SQL Server programming and solid experience with ETL tools such as SSIS and similar technologies are required. These professionals are experts in data processes such as aggregating, cleansing and enrichment, lookup and referencing, pivoting and grouping, and process optimization with compliance to security and CAB (Change Admin Board) standards.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Ability to resolve highly complex, multi-faceted problems to meet business needs, providing recommendations on design and methodologies, and system solutions.
  • Provide business support to all units globally, including new and existing portfolios, ad hoc queries, and assisting with the design and implementation of systems enhancements.
  • Ensure management is kept informed and that problems and issues are escalated appropriately.
  • Provide input to the continuous improvement of processes and adopt the latest technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide L1/L2/L3 support for ETL processes built on SSIS, DataStage, and PLSQL.
  • Ability to liaise with different teams to fix data quality issues.
  • Coordinate and follow up with various teams, vendors, and third parties for issue resolution.
  • Work with Infrastructure teams to coordinate infrastructure/environment-related upgrades, patches, and migration activities.
  • Ensure documentation of issues, solutions, root causes, and findings for future problem resolutions.
  • Utilize development techniques such as debugging, testing, coding, and version control tools like TFS.
  • Performance tuning skills are considered an asset.
  • DevOps process-oriented.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be incorporated into day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles while ensuring adequacy, adherence, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls.
  • Contribute to an inclusive work environment.

Dimensions

  • Business units supported: RBBO, Adjudications, GBS, OCS, Global Compliance, Global Complaints, and IB Operations.
  • 1-2 Direct Reports.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Must have:
    • Bachelor’s degree in technology and/or engineering course.
    • 2 years of solid TSQL programming experience.
    • 2 years of experience in ETL tools such as SSIS (including experience with Python).
    • Knowledge of cloud solutions, particularly on MS Azure Technologies.
    • In-depth understanding of modern Datahub and Data warehousing concepts.
    • Extensive knowledge of ETL standards concerning data security and run-time process optimization.
    • English level B1.
  • Result-oriented, highly motivated, detail-oriented, with strong analytical skills to deliver efficient solutions.
  • Curious about technologies, adaptive to changes, a good team player, works efficiently under pressure, takes ownership of tasks, and possesses good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Nice to have:
    • 2 years of Azure Data Factory pipeline development experience.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
