About The Role As a Staff Engineer, you’ll lead architecture and delivery of high-performance backend systems and sophisticated cloud infrastructure for enterprise clients, blending hands-on coding with technical leadership, DevSecOps excellence, and client-facing collaboration to modernize both cutting-edge and established platforms. Responsibilities Define and drive technical vision and architectural direction across complex client projects Design, develop, and deploy scalable, resilient backend services and APIs Build and contribute hands-on across core stacks (Ruby/Rails, Golang, Python) Architect and operate AWS infrastructure with Kubernetes (EKS) at scale Implement Infrastructure-as-Code using Pulumi; champion automation and security across the SDLC Establish and run CI/CD with GitOps practices (e.g., FluxCD); embed DevSecOps best practices Troubleshoot, optimize, and migrate legacy workloads, including LAMP environments Lead code reviews, establish design patterns, and uplift engineering quality Mentor mid-level and senior engineers; model best practices and technical strategy Partner with clients, translate needs into solutions, and communicate to technical and non-technical stakeholders Other duties as assigned About You Qualifications & Skills 14+ years of relevant software engineering experience with senior/lead ownership (Staff/Principal/Senior Consultant) Demonstrated backend expertise in at least two: Ruby, Golang, Python (production-grade services) Deep AWS experience and advanced Kubernetes operations, specifically EKS Proven DevSecOps practice: CI/CD design and operation, GitOps (FluxCD), and Pulumi-based IaC Expert knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and architectural/design patterns across modern and legacy systems Strong debugging, performance optimization, and reliability engineering skills Excellent client communication, consulting acumen, and ability to explain complex concepts simply Nice to have: TypeScript/React experience; GitOps workflows with FluxCD; high-traffic LAMP optimization; prior consulting experience Growth mindset, ownership, and a bias for pragmatic, secure, well-tested solutions About Monks Monks is the global, purely digital, unitary operating brand of S4Capital plc.
