Junior Software Developer – Observability Location: Remote – EMEA and Americas Job Overview Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. We are hiring a Junior Developer with proven experience in Python and/or Go to build a cloud‑native monitoring stack that composes best‑in‑class open‑source monitoring tools. The stack is opinionated, resilient, and scalable, delivering deep insights out of the box. It supports applications running on Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare‑metal, VMs, and containers, leveraging multiple data sources and contextualizing telemetry to provide rich user experience. This is an exciting opportunity for a software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, Kubernetes, and Observability. Responsibilities Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team. Write, test and document high‑quality code to create new features. Debug issues and interact with the vibrant community. Review code produced by other engineers. Attend conferences to represent Canonical and the Charmed Observability Stack. Work from home with global travel 2–4 weeks for internal and external events. Qualifications Love technology and working with brilliant people. Value soft skills; passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, and self‑motivated. Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree. Skilled Python developer, preferably with a track record in open source. Working knowledge of Go. Interest and experience with at least two of: Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, distributed systems.
