Risk Manager (2LoD, Model Risk Validation), Risk and Compliance Solutions We are seeking a highly motivated Model Risk Manager for Amazon’s Payments Risk organization to implement model risk management framework, support governance activities, and perform independent model validation. In this highly visible role, you will work with stakeholders including Legal, Compliance Tech, Operations, 1LoD Risk, and business teams to understand models that drive critical decisions, validate them, and influence the business to mitigate and manage model risks. Key Job Responsibilities Drive vision and execution of tactical elements of governance and compliance activities for AI and machine learning (ML) risk models. Assist in managing AI/ML risk management processes in alignment with regulatory requirements. Work with stakeholders and team members to ensure requisite activities associated with AI/ML regulatory guidance occur. Prepare content and facilitate key stakeholder and working group meetings. Ensure requisite activities within the enterprise AI/ML Risk Management Standard occur. Identify heightened risks, controls, and value of prospective AI/ML use cases. Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and data scientists to create and sustain a comprehensive AI/ML use intake process. Maintain the inventory of AI/ML use cases, evidence of review and approval, and associated documentation. Partner with other functions (e.g., Legal, Compliance) on review and challenge of new AI/ML use cases. Work with subject‑matter experts and leaders to execute control activities as articulated in the enterprise AI/ML strategy. Develop and deliver training content and socialization about AI/ML risk processes and controls. A Day in the Life You will serve as the primary subject matter expert for creating and overseeing the model risk management policy, independent governance of model risk, and performing model validation. Your role includes working with operations teams and Boards to drive models that mitigate risks to sellers and buyers while meeting regulatory requirements and addressing financial crime, operational, financial, strategic, and customer risk. Basic Qualifications 3+ years of risk management experience, including building, testing, implementing, and validating models in financial services technology, payments, merchant/acquiring, audit/consulting, or business software contexts (preferably AI/ML models). Bachelor’s degree in Financial Engineering, Financial Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience. Proven ability to manage difficult risk programs across multiple teams and design model risk management programs from the ground up. Strong data analysis and technical skills (SQL, Hadoop or similar), plus experience developing pricing and risk models using Python, R, or C++ is a plus. Excellent written and spoken communication skills and the ability to transform complex risk concepts into clear documentation and influence business decisions. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree. Experience leading and influencing a team or organization. Strong analytical and quantitative skills to understand and validate models effectively. Experience with big data processing and presentation via AWS technologies, SQL, and data pipelines. Excellent written and oral communication skills across all organizational levels.
