About the Opportunity The Regional Claims Manager is responsible for leading the claims function at Ocean Re. The role ensures that claims are assessed, managed, and settled fairly, efficiently, and in line with contractual obligations. It requires strong technical expertise in reinsurance, excellent stakeholder management with cedants and brokers, and a strategic approach to claims governance and financial control. What are we looking for? As a Regional Claims Manager, you will be able to: Leadership & Strategy Define and execute the global claims strategy in alignment with Ocean Re’s business objectives. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing claims team with specialized knowledge in different reinsurance lines. Drive digital innovation and automation to improve claims efficiency and reporting. Claims Operations Oversee end-to-end management of both treaty and facultative claims portfolios. Review and handle complex, high-value, or disputed claims personally. Ensure consistent and fair claims handling across multiple geographies and lines of business. Maintain accurate and timely claims reserving, reporting, and documentation. Financial Management Monitor and report on claims reserves, IBNR and recoveries. Collaborate with finance, actuarial, and underwriting teams to align claims trends with pricing and reserving assumptions. Provide senior management and the Board with regular updates on claims development, exposures, and emerging risks. Governance & Compliance Ensure adherence to local and international regulatory frameworks governing reinsurance claims. Implement best practices for audit, compliance, and fraud prevention. Maintain strong internal controls and robust claims governance policies. Stakeholder Engagement Act as the primary liaison with cedants, brokers, and reinsurers on claims matters. Negotiate settlements of disputed or complex claims to protect Ocean Re’s interests while maintaining client trust and treating customers fairly. Represent the company in arbitration, litigation, and industry forums. Strengthen client and service provider relationships through transparent communication and proactive claims support. Essential qualifications, skills and experience Bachelor's degree in Law, Insurance, Risk Management, or related discipline (JD, Master's Degree or equivalent preferred). Recognized professional qualification (ACII or equivalent). 10+ years of experience in (re)insurance claims, with at least 5 years in a senior management role. Demonstrated success in managing large, complex treaty and facultative claims portfolios. Experience working with global cedants, brokers, and regulators. Deep technical knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance claims. Strong leadership and ability to manage teams across geographies. Exceptional negotiation, communication, and influencing skills. Strong commercial relationships in the reinsurance market. High level of analytical and problem-solving ability, particularly with complex claims. Preferred Skills Experience with digital tools and technologies in claims management.
