Field Service Engineer, 4-Stroke Wärtsilä is a world leader in marine technology and the industry’s transformation toward a decarbonised and sustainable future. We are looking for a Field Service Engineer to join our global Parts and Field Service organization in the Americas region. What will you be doing? As a Field Service Engineer, you will lead and develop the Field Service Team under the Marine Agreements team. You will perform troubleshooting, inspections, overhauls, and repairs on 4-stroke marine diesel engines. The role reports to the Field Service Resource Coordinator. Accountabilities Perform overhauls and repairs on 4-stroke engines. Conduct advanced mechanical, electronic, automation, and system integration troubleshooting on 4-stroke engines and ancillary equipment. Interact professionally with customers during work execution. Commission service products and MAR/PBL‑designed overhauls and maintenance activities with Customer Riding Teams or 3rd‑party mechanics. Lead and manage onsite teams and related activities during work execution. Provide internal and external progress status updates. Create Service Work Reports. Ensure work execution follows Wärtsilä QEHS guidelines and site procedures. Follow‑up and report status of work orders to customers and internal stakeholders. Continuously seek solutions according to best practices. Qualifications Fluency in English and Spanish; intermediate to advanced English language skills. Safety‑first mindset. Passion for advancing 4‑stroke technical knowledge. Relevant technical education or a combination of education and experience. Technical experience in reciprocating engine repair and overhaul, including W32, W38 A/B, Wärtsila 46F, Wärtsila 46, Wärtsila 46 Common Rail, Sulzer ZA40S or similar 4‑stroke engines. Experience with installation, operation, and maintenance of turbochargers, pumps, heat exchangers, fuel systems, lubrication and cooling systems. Experience with electrical system installation and maintenance (beneficial). Experience with medium‑speed 4‑stroke engines; desirable experience with ABB TPL73/TPL77 turbochargers. Professional customer interaction skills. Physical & Mental Demands Vision: close, distance, depth. Color perception. Hearing / listening. Clear speech. Dexterous touch. Ability to mount/dismount forklift/truck. Power handling: lift 45 lbs (5x/shift), carry 25 lbs (5x/shift). Driving (local/over‑the‑road). Extended standing / walking. Climbing and balance. Work Environment Works alone or with others. Verbal and face‑to‑face contact. Indoor and outdoor work. Exposure to extreme heat / cold, noise, mechanical and electrical equipment, pressurized equipment, moving objects, high places, fumes / odors, hazardous materials, dust. Location Caribbean, Central, and South America Travel Requirements This position requires a 70 % travel commitment, domestic and international, including onshore and offshore locations. Candidates should have a valid B1/B2 U.S. visa and be prepared to travel extensively.
