Payroll Director

Pilot Company seeks an experienced Payroll Director to lead the payroll function and drive efficiency across multiple states and Canada. The successful candidate will have a strong background in multi-state and Canadian payroll, with a minimum of seven years' experience and a bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field. A certified payroll professional (CPP) certification is also desirable.
This role requires relocation to Knoxville, TN, where the company offers relocation assistance. The ideal candidate will be a change agent with strong initiative management skills, capable of establishing workload priorities and balancing diverse tasks effectively. They must also possess excellent collaboration and teamwork skills, as well as strong organizational, attention to detail, and multi-tasking abilities. In addition, they should have a thorough working knowledge of pay and tax regulations, and be proficient in MS Office. Experience leading payroll system implementations and integrations is highly valued, as is a strong understanding of human resource principles and practices.
The Payroll Director will spearhead payroll projects, audits, process improvements, and operational strategies to scale payroll operations and adjust to organizational needs. They will lead the payroll department, coach, mentor, recruit, and develop subject matter experts to ensure completion and achievement of annual SMART goals. Assist with the development of multi-year departmental goals and roadmaps to align with organizational objectives. Design, implement, monitor, and communicate important payroll performance data and metrics, using such metrics to optimize payroll accuracy and processes.
