About the Role

The Lead Backend Software Engineer plays a critical role in developing and maintaining the core backend services that power Meteor Screens' digital display solutions. This position requires a strong background in cloud-native architecture, Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, secure, and efficient backend systems.

This role involves guiding feature development, setting coding standards, and mentoring fellow engineers. As a key member of our team, you will have opportunities for growth and impact within a supportive, results-driven environment.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of backend services, ensuring code quality and scalability.
  • Design and implement cloud-native architectures using AWS and Terraform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Implement robust unit testing and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
  • Understand and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate software deployment.
  • Drive best practices in coding standards, testing, and operational excellence.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize backend performance and scalability.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Work closely with product managers to translate requirements into technical solutions.


Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A strong background in backend development with 7+ years of experience in Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Expertise in AWS (Lambda, S3, ECS, RDS, etc.) and cloud-native architecture.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Proficiency in writing unit tests and ensuring quality with modern testing frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with building and scaling distributed systems in a cloud environment.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality software within time constraints.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.


Location and Benefits

This full-time contractor position is based in Colombia and offers a competitive salary range of $4,000 - $7,000 per month, depending on experience and location. Additionally, you will receive access to a quiet work area at home with reliable internet (50 Mbps or more) and excellent English verbal and written language proficiency (C1-C2 in CEFR Scale).


Recruiting Process

  • Skills Assessment: You will be asked to complete a few exercises and/or projects designed to recreate the work tasks that you will be responsible for in this role.
  • Skills Assessment Interview: A 60-minute conversation to further test your skills and evaluate culture fit.
  • Hiring Manager Final Interview: A 30-minute conversation with the position's Hiring Manager to discuss expectations and vision for the role.
