Purpose

As a Data Architecture Lead, you will contribute to the overall success of Global Human Resources Technology by ensuring individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. You will ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Design and implement data architecture for the cloud-based platform, ensuring it supports business requirements and adheres to best practices for SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI) and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
  • Lead the integration of diverse data sources using Azure Data Factory, APIs, and batch file processes, ensuring seamless data flow, data quality, and consistency.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of SQL Managed Instance and other data components to ensure high availability, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies, data quality standards, and security measures to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions that align with the overall data strategy.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of data architecture, integration processes, and standards to ensure clarity, consistency, and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Provide expert-level support for data-related issues, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementing effective solutions to maintain system reliability and performance.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices. Proactively seek opportunities to enhance the data architecture, integration processes, and overall data management strategy.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be incorporated into day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Strategic Involvement: Collaborates with the Director on strategic initiatives and defers to senior leadership on major policies and escalations.
  • Support to Director: Provides background information and recommendations to assist the Director in decision-making.
  • Expertise and Influence: Respected as a technology and business expert with strong leadership skills, influencing peers and senior management.
  • Technical Proficiency: Possesses deep expertise in complex technical processes and stays updated on emerging technological trends.

Education / Experience / Other Information

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field: Advanced degrees or relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer) are a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in data architecture and data management: Proven track record in designing and implementing data solutions on cloud platforms, particularly with SQL MI and ADF or similar tools.
  • Strong experience with data integration technologies: Proficiency in integrating data from various sources using APIs, batch file processes, and other ETL tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance and security practices: Experience in implementing data governance frameworks and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills: Ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and optimize data architecture for performance and scalability.
  • B2 Level of English

Working Conditions

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
