Job Overview

Software International is a leading provider of technical talent to Fortune 100/500/1000 companies in Canada. We have a long-term contract as a Systems Team Lead with our IT consulting client, supporting North American clients on various website and backend infrastructure services.

Salary

The salary for this role ranges from $65,000 - $68,000 USD/year ($88,000 - $93,000 CDN/year) based on location and experience.

Job Description

This leadership role is responsible for the overall technical management, operations, ongoing maintenance, and support of our large-scale production websites and networks. The successful candidate will report directly to the CTO and manage the Systems department.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Technical management and oversight of systems and networks.
  2. Maintenance of vendor relationships for technical infrastructure of office and website systems.
  3. Collaboration with Development Team Leads and Project Management to manage projects for the website and provide final sign-off/approval for release to production.
  4. Participation in planning and project discussions for various websites.
  5. Risk analysis and assessment of areas that may impact systems and implementation of changes as necessary.
  6. Monitoring of network and system security, ensuring a high level of data security.
  7. Design and implementation of systems and network architecture, including capacity planning, hardware, infrastructure, software integration, OS and software performance tuning.
  8. Serving as the single point of escalation for production issues and resolving them in a timely manner.
  9. Management of risk, including monitoring, system redundancy and backups based on business requirements and acceptable risk.
  10. Supervision, coaching, and motivation of team members to maintain healthy group dynamics while adhering to company directives and policies.
  11. Providing technical assistance and consultation as required to various departments within the company.
  12. Daily supervision of Systems Administration staff and provision of mentoring and technical assistance as needed.
  13. Leadership by example and providing feedback for performance reviews.
  14. Facilitating problem-solving and collaboration among team members.
  15. Participation in on-call rotation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  1. 5+ years of experience with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
  2. Minimum of 2+ years of management/leadership experience in a technology-oriented organization.
  3. Strong background in supporting web servers.
  4. Well-versed in SAN (NFS and iSCSI) storage solutions.
  5. Expertise in ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, and Logstash).
  6. TCP/IP knowledge, including BGP and OSPF.
  7. Hands-on experience working with Linux in a Systems Administrative role.
  8. Advanced Network Administrative skills, including routing, switching, and security.
  9. Exceptional problem determination and creative problem-solving skills.
  10. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  11. Understanding of software development lifecycle.
  12. Strong documentation and organizational practices.
  13. Extensive experience with various technologies, including but not limited to: MySQL, LAN/WAN/VPN setup, Linux-based firewalls, cloud technologies, bare-metal hardware, SAN, switching, load-balancing, backup technologies, systems security, and automation systems.
